This is a word that gets thrown around a LOT by the folks on the "right" so let's look at it and see if they actually have a bone to chew.
According to the fine folks at Merriam-Webster, the definitions for "collectivism" are: Let's start with #1 and ask the simple question, "Does collectivism exist in the US?"
Yes. The government(s) of the USA hold collective control over many aspects of daily life such as police departments, fire departments, roads, military, property insurance, banking, health insurance, rail service, and more.
It should also be noted here that "Wall Street" itself is a huge collective of investors shaping the economic landscape for all that live in the US and certainly a major influence on global economics as well.
The government of the US is a collective of elected/appointed/un-elected officials guiding the country... with the help of the "Wall Street" collective, the union collectives, and all of the other Special Interest Group collectives.
And that brings us to #2: All those "identities" whether it's the myriad brought to us by the alphabet soup people or just the usual suspects: AFRICAN-Americans ASIAN-Americans ITALIAN-Americans IRISH-Americans JEWISH-Americans MUSLIM-Americans Conservative CHRISTIAN-Americans DEMOCRATS REPUBLICANS LIBERTARIANS
Etc.
These groups are collectives. They value their identity (based on the word in ALL CAPS) more highly than anything and expect others of the same "identity" to fall into line.
Hell, even the "rugged individualists" belong to collectives looking to push forward their agenda... in the most hilariously hypocritical fashion.
So, it's not a matter of collectivism existing in America as it has done so since the beginning, but more about which collective(s) one chooses to ally with... or - more importantly - which ones you choose to hate, BUT to say that one hates collectivism, while benefiting from it, is absurd in the extreme.

Despite what the right wants you to think, collectivism is a good thing. You want a society where people are working together rather than turned against each other in competition. The propaganda says there will be lazy folks who won't do their share if society isn't cut throat. Then we turn around and have a government that gives away trillions of dollars to the banks and super rich, and high money technology developed by public funds to certain privileged corporations. Also consider this. We have a government that says they are going to go to war if there are key markets around the globe that they can't get into and dominate. But then they're fine with the vast majority of Americans struggling to make ends meet. Something just doesn't add up here.

You said money is spent on elections so they'll cure problems, which is the exact opposite of what's going on.
