How about some controls on journalism?
South Florida Sun Sentinel Shooters fire more than 50 bullets into a crowd in Fort Lauderdale Eileen Kelley, Chris Perkins and Brooke Baitinger, South Florida Sun Sentinel Mon, April 5, 2021, 4:59 PM·2 min read
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A hail of gunfire exploded from multiple high-powered guns and rifles in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, causing a crowd to scramble and leaving three wounded, including a 6-year-old girl.
Multiple shooters began firing more than 50 rounds just before 10 p.m., striking both the inside and outside of Tony’s Market at the corner of Northwest 22nd Road and Franklin Drive.
A lively party inside the store turned to chaos. Children covered their ears to blunt the jarring sound of gunfire as they ducked for cover. A mother rushed in with her little girl, the glass door to the market shattering, according to store surveillance video. The girl’s mom tried to avoid the gunfire as she carried her little girl, but the child still was struck.
A 16-year-old boy and a man also were shot.
The wounded girl and boy still were in the hospital Monday, but are expected to recover, police said. The wounded man already has been released from the hospital, said Ali Adamson a spokeswoman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
Police say they are looking for the shooters, whom they believe were attending this impromptu and violent block party.
Paramedics arrived within minutes of the mayhem, placing the little girl on a stretcher and taking her to Broward Health Medical Center. Not long after they arrived at the hospital, the 16-year-old shooting victim arrived in a car as did the wounded man.
Callers flooded the emergency dispatch service.
“We have people shot,” said a man who reported the shooting. “People injured. A lot of shots going on.”
The man begs for help to come quickly. His pleas get drowned by people who are wailing inside the store.
“Oh my God. Oh my God, they are inside the store,” he says before shouting at people inside to lock the door.
There’s another call, this time the voice of what sounds like a young girl: “They’re having a shootout.”
Another man calls and says about 10 people were shooting guns: “There’s a lot of guns.”
“A little girl got shot. Oh man, they are still shooting,” he said. “There’s so many people I just saw a bunch of people shooting from different directions.”
Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identities of those involved are encouraged to contact Broward County Crimes Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), where you can remain anonymous, or Detective Jameson Jones at 954-828-5771.
==================================================
Since neither the shooters nor weapons were recovered at the time of this writing....... how can the author make the claim that there were multiple 'high-powered guns and rifles'?
It's going to get interesting if and when all the 'defunding' goes on and the dispatcher will simply tell people "Thanks for calling 911 like you've been trained, but we've got nobody here to respond anymore."

Why? Did a journalist fire more than 50 questions into a crowd in Fort Lauderdale?
They were savagely rifling off yet another anti-gun piece and taking shots at the 2nd Amendment with their usual ammunition of hyperbole and exaggeration.
I was shocked to discover that a woman carrying a child is not fast enough to evade bullets, though. So not a complete loss with the information exchange.

Weaponizing their questions to assault the bystanders with? Peppering them with rapid fire inquiries? That's surprising when you consider that the child makes a natural bullet shield, thus allowing the woman more of a chance to survive...

You don't understand what "defunding the police" means. It doesn't mean taking away all of their money so that the police force has to downsize. It means taking away certain responsibilities so that they can focus on their main jobs with reduced stress and anxiety (which can lead to violent encounters which would otherwise not become violent).
The term has been explained many, many times over the past couple years. Is it that you don't understand the words or that you don't trust the speaker?
As for knowing that the weapons used were "high-powered guns and rifles," all the author had to do was ask questions of the medical staff at the hospital and/or a couple cops familiar with the case. Certain ammunition types are only used in certain types of weapons. A trained eye can look at a bullet (and how far in penetrated into a body or even wood) and know what kind of weapon was used. It's called, "ballistics," something else you seem to have no knowledge of.
I do like you, Abs, but many of your opinions and rhetoric all seem to be based on misunderstanding and/or outright avoidance of facts.
Keep posting though. I enjoy it.

I do not trust the people pushing such ideas.......... mostly because their ideas have predictable and usually even more detrimental outcomes.....which they, themselves, never have to personally endure.
Remember, even though I'm a hard right authoritarian........ I'm also the first to say "IF you don't want the police in your neighborhood, by all means get rid of them. Just don't cry about all the criminals afterwards."
If those were the questions asked, it'd be nice to read that in the article, no? It might even convince someone like me that they knew what the hell they were talking about. Even the smallest and dainty of guns can sound very loud and put a fright into some people, though. The anti-gun agenda has been on display for many years within the MSM, imo. Their 'trained eyes' seem to not be very prevailant though, since they rush to use terms like 'weapons of war' and 'assault style' so often.
I have no issues being the first to admit I am not even a gun guy by any stretch of the imagination. But that's what bothers me so much by the US media and it's clear agenda. Like I mentioned earlier, it seems like in the largest cities, the place where many of them live.....is where the most gun control has been installed.........and YET? still so much criminal behavior and shootings? So they wanna spread it around to the other 3000 counties within the US since their 40 have been such failures?
As long as you enjoy it, I can provide some entertainment for you.

1 & 2. Again, "defunding the police" has nothing to do with fewer police.
3 & 4. Yes, it would have been better for the author to say, "Police say that, according to initial review of the ammunition, the weapons used were..." or even "Witnesses say they saw the shooters using..." but I'm capable of putting 2 and 2 together without having it spelled out for me. And I'm completely on board with you about people misusing terminology for the sake of instilling fear, but let's wait for the article when the criminals are caught and their weapons identified to have that discussion, K? Chances are that we'll be in agreement.
While I am averse to certain forms of gun control, I don't think that having it would necessarily cause a jump in crime in the "other 3,000" counties. That is fallacious logic. You're essentially suggesting that people WITHOUT peanut allergies would somehow acquire them should we ban peanut oil usage in all restaurants.
5. Thanks!

1 & 2........ that's 1. IF you believe it doesn't mean less police presence. I know with the expectations these days, police are simply going to stop bothering to be as involved in actual policing. BLMers are constantly complaining how the police pull back and leave them to fend for themselves after every over-reaction on their part.
What about all the discussions of more social workers and whatnot instead of standard police? You don't believe those threats, either? I know it's Govt, so it's not like they'll ever actually shrink or stop spending so much......... but just like in your field of teaching? They'll figure out different ways to waste even more money and achieve less positive results. That's my firm belief.
3 & 4......... I'm used to most articles having very few REAL details anymore..........they use it to often run cover for their preferred narratives. But since so many articles are lacking in actual facts and details, and they insist on using such agenda driven language, I don't think it's too much to expect they inform me of how they arrived at such hyperbolic phrasing.
That's was MY point. Why not wait until the criminals and guns are captured before spewing such panic?
I'm borrowing sentiment and stats from everyone's favorite jpat. If we simply excluded those 40 counties, the ones that usually have the most restrictive gun laws already...... the US looks much more like a wealthy private club when it comes to violence and gun crime. So when do they ever admit their areas are the problem? That their policies have failed?
I'm more aligned with Ricky Gervais when it comes to people with peanut allergies........we should rub nuts all over ourselves before ever getting on a plane or bus.
5. I aims to please. I also truly believe that more people would prefer to have me as their neighbor than many of the types of people they find themselves defending against my frank opinions. I'm not the type of person going out of my way to harm others, unlike their preferred dependents.

1 & 2. Governments are going to waste money on pork. That's a given. But it doesn't mean that it's OK to call something what it's not.
3 & 4. Talking about the failures of gun control is very different than suggesting that gun control would create a rise in crime in other places
5. I don't think you have any intent to hurt people, Abs.

Too funny........ imo, the Left has been almost solely guilty of changing the definitions of words and lying about the applications. The word 'progressive' being about the most egregious example. You've pointed it out yourself.
You should really visit my local area that has been dripped on with this nonsense for the last few decades. The tiniest city in the NFL has slowly become just another crappy Milwaukee-like area. I'm beginning to suspect it was totally done on purpose.
Thank you. I think most miss that about me completely. I can be extremely morbid and or apathetic........ but overall I'm a Golden Rule kinda person. Leave me be, and I'll do the same. Govt porkers and their ilk don't even seem to understand that concept.

Definition vs. application. I'm picking up what you're putting down. I just prefer to see the hypocrisy first rather than just assume it's coming. I'm always hoping for my "pleasant surprise."
As for your current city situation, there are probably more factors at work than gun control but not knowing the current or historical specifics, I cannot speak directly to the subject. And given your own tendency towards hyperbole, I can't take your word for it either.
Keep being you, Abs. One day I just might visit that "quickly becoming a shit hole" where you live and we can have a drink together: beer for me and something NA for you.

I'll let you chat with my wife.
Since she's been a Dispatcher for over a decade, she can fill you in on the steady decline of our nearby city. There's also the manner in which the media presents and omits details to factor in, as well. It's glaring.
I'll provide the Pepsi........ and you can add whichever fermented options you prefer.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up my circumstances... At least where it concerns my mum, my ex, my son... And most other people I'm related to or have ever been friends with.
