I'm going to disagree with John Oliver
John mentions a bogus study and then tries to play it off that since the study was bogus that the claim itself is wrong. That's bad science, John. The claim could be valid (I suspect it is), and deserves that a proper study be conducted/ However, I don't believe that a proper study will ever be conducted out of fear that the hypothesis is actually correct (it's a fad for many) or that if conducted that the results will never see the light of day if they run contrary to the agenda.
TGs in sports: Oliver's evidence of anti-TG laws comes from a deeply red state with one of the smallest populations in the country where there's hardly going to be any TGs (real or fad) anyway. And, of course, he chose to focus on trans-boys wanting to wrestle, rather than transgirls wanting to swim or lift weights, as if these are comparable scenarios.
"The danger to claiming to be TG is only because of culture not being accepting" (paraphrasing) Bullshit. There ARE some people in the world who are actually transgendered. They need to be cared for and accepted for who they are. Unfortunately there are also two other groups: homosexuals who are being led to believe they are actually transgender, and trend riders who make up all sorts of weird names for "genders" simply so they can be cooler than the last person who created a name for a "gender."
As with many "woke" causes, this has NOTHING to do with non-acceptance. Acceptance (or at least tolerance) came quickly among most liberal-minded straight people, but as usual, that wasn't enough and the envelope HAD to be pushed until tolerance and acceptance were no longer options. It's most noticeable in the pronoun debacle. If a person who was a "he" yesterday asked to be called "she" today, then it happened. There wasn't any big deal made about it. And THAT is the problem. They want it to be a big deal. They want to be seen as special... and to get all the perks that come with being a "victim," so then instead he/him/his becoming she/her/hers, they demanded that he/him/his become shizzle/fizzle/nizzle or whatever. And guess what? If they could all agree that there is a common set of third gender pronouns, I guarantee that using them wouldn't be so much of a problem, but they won't because then they aren't "special" anymore so each and everyone of these narcissists has to choose some other outrageous pronouns as if the rest of us have time to learn and remember all of them when we honestly have more important things to do.
But if we don't, they opine, these people will get depressed and self-harm! Then those people need to be in the care of a mental health professional, not society at large. We can't all be sitting around coffee shops making up cool sounding genders. Some of us have to work to make the coffee... build the coffee shop... etc. You know... keep society and the economy running.
I honestly want people who are truly transgender (especially kids) to get the care and acceptance they need and deserve. More-so, I honestly want people who aren't truly TG but have dysphoria to get proper care and support. But mostly, I want the pretenders and poseurs to fuck off because they are actually making it harder for the first two groups to get what they deserve.

I don't feel I need to watch that video after that excellent description, so thank you. And I have always been for females that wanted to compete equally in male sports.
I also feel that there is, and always will be, a gap between acceptance and tolerance. One should expect tolerance......but acceptance at every turn? That's asking a bit much from the real world.
I do feel, until the last few years........ that the US was one of the most open and tolerant places. But that wasn't good enough, apparently.

That's when woke broke. It became about asserting dominance and turning the tables instead of reaching actual equality.
That said, I'm not going to throw out the baby with the bath water just to spite those folks. I still want to see true equality achieved... whether they like how it looks or not.

it's a perfect example, yet again, of when people are given even the slightest bit of power over others......they very often tend to abuse it.
They won't like it. We both know that. It's human nature

too funny, I had this open in another tab since last nite, just forgot........and meant to post it, but I was too exhausted from hosting some buddies all yesterday. HuffPost John Oliver Exposes GOP's Most 'Heartbreakingly Stupid' Anti-Trans Talking PointEd Mazza Mon, October 17, 2022 at 4:24 AM John Oliver on Sunday returned to the topic of trans rights ― and pulled apart some of the dumbest yet most persistent right-wing talking points used to argue against equality. For example, sports. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) has made anti-trans legislation a central part of her agenda, signing a law that ― among other things ― essentially forbids transgender girls from competing in youth sports. But Oliver stepped in with a fact-check. “Kids aren’t plotting big, deceitful school sports-related cheating schemes just to get what they want,” he said. “You’re thinking of Lori Loughlin. That’s who you’re thinking of here. You’re confused.” He also looked at the growing number of GOP lawmakers citing a debunked conspiracy theory of schools stocking kitty litter for students who identify as cats. “The fact you seem to genuinely think that that’s happening is just heartbreakingly stupid,” he said after playing clips of politicians in Minnesota and other states all repeating that line. He added: Because when you think about it for literally two seconds the whole thing falls apart. For one, if kids were using litter boxes in class, a state representative from Minnesota would not be the one breaking that news to you. You would’ve fucking heard about it. If a kid shat in a litter box in first period, it would be the only thing anyone in that state was talking about by lunch. Minnesota would change its state motto to “Minnesota: Y’know, the state where that kid shit in a litterbox.” And those weren’t the only right-wing myths and talking points he dismantled. www.yahoo.com/news/john-oliver-exposes-gops-most-092450151.html

"Now Rhett, how many times have I told you to wash your hands after a weekly cross burning. See? It's coming out" (off to look for that gif)
