What does the State of California have to do with Planned Parenthood?   I think it's hilarious how you think that people who can only afford to rent can somehow buy buildings.

It just said right there that Newsome & Co are going to use CA tax dollars to assist PP

They've recently announced mortgages for minorities with no money down in some areas. (horrible idea, imo)

And they've suggested approving mortgages at certain levels for people based on them paying rent.

So I gotta wonder why they just don't come up with a new type of mortgage for groups of Renters that want to be owners? Whether it's a 4, 8, 16 or higher unit building.......what difference should it make provided you can use similar qualification standards as what they're already proposing?

If someone fails to pay after purchase?.......out they go. Back to renting, and that creates a new opening for someone else that wants in on the deal. Make it an extra long mortgage of say 40 years so the payment is even lower.......and it entices the bank into such a deal where they collect more Interest for longer.

AFTER it's paid off entirely, all that's left is the property taxes and maintenance fees.

Now go ahead and tell me how silly an idea that is. As opposed to using tax dollars perpetually to give people 'rent control'.

California Launches State-Funded Website with Abortion Information

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday the launch of a state-funded abortion website providing women inside and outside of California with information about their legal rights, where to find providers, and how to pay for services.

“Abortion is legal, safe and accessible here in California — whether or not you live here, know that we have your back,” Newsom said.

“As Republican states continue rolling back fundamental civil rights and even try to prevent people from accessing information online or crossing state lines for care, you’re welcome here in California and we’ll continue to fight like hell for you,” he said.

Abortion.ca.gov provides information in English and Spanish. The website does not collect any personal information about visitors to the site.

“This new website is a critical resource, providing essential information to patients in and out of California, and can hopefully serve as a model for the rest of the nation,” said Jodi Hicks, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates California.

In the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade after 49 years, both old laws and new “trigger” legislation have halted abortion in many states.

“No person should be forced to travel outside of their home state for essential health care, including abortion care, yet extreme politicians are making that a reality for millions across the country,” said Hicks. “This new website will increase access to accurate information and is critical so that people can seek the care they want or need here in California.”

This year’s state budget includes more than $200 million in additional funding for reproductive health care services, and in November California voters will have an opportunity to amend the state’s constitution to enshrine the right to an abortion

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is cruising to another four years in office, a new poll says.

Newsom, who first won his gubernatorial race by more than 20 percentage points in 2018, then defeated a 2021 recall attempt by a similar margin, is leading Republican state Sen. Brian Dahle 58% to 31% in a new Public Policy Institute of California poll released Wednesday.

The vote breakdown by political party strongly suggests Newsom's lead is insurmountable. Newsom is leading independent voters 55% to 35%, which is very bad news for Dahle. Furthermore, Newsom has the support of 90% of California Democrats, and in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1, that's a death knell for his opponent. No non-Democrat is going to win statewide office without garnering significant support from Democratic voters. Dahle also has support from only 81% of California Republicans, meaning Newsom is doing a better job of consolidating his party's voters than Dahle is.

Newsom's approval rating is down slightly from May (it dropped from 53% to 52%), but that figure has been remarkably stable in PPIC polls conducted since the start of 2021. In the past two years of PPIC polls, his approval rating has always been somewhere between 52% and 56%.

The PPIC poll, conducted among 1,705 residents between Sept. 2 and Sept. 11, also surveyed three of the state's biggest ballot measures. It found that "yes" on Proposition 1, the measure that amends the state constitution to include a right to abortion, is leading "no" 69% to 25%, and Proposition 27, the measure that would legalize online sports betting is likely fail, with "no" leading "yes" 54% to 34%. The pollster did not ask respondents about Proposition 26, the measure that would legalize in-person sports gambling at race tracks and casinos owned by Native American tribes.

Finally, the PPIC found that "yes" on Proposition 30, a tax increase on high-income earners that would pay for more electric vehicles, is leading "no" 55% to 40%. Earlier this week, Newsom made news when he appeared in ad urging residents to vote "no" on the measure, placing him at odds with the California Democratic Party and several environmental groups.

Newsom argues that the measure is a "Trojan horse" and "cynical scheme" from ride-hailing app Lyft "to grab a huge taxpayer-funded subsidy." Lyft faces a state requirement to have most of its fleet comprised of electric vehicles by 2030.

The "no" campaign has internal polling showing that opposition rises when voters are informed of Newsom's stance, so if the governor's ads are able to turn the tide against Prop. 30 between now and Election Day, it would further speak to his untouchable status in the state.

Which States Rely the Most on Federal Aid?

State-level taxes may be the most visible source of state government revenues for most taxpayers, but it’s important to remember that they are not the only source of state revenue. State governments also receive a significant amount of assistance from the federal government in the form of federal grants-in-aid. Federal aid is given to states for Medicaid, transportation, education, and other means-tested entitlement programs administered by the states.

States differ in the amount of federal aid they receive. The top recipient of federal aid in FY 2014 was Mississippi, which relied on federal assistance for 40.9 percent of its revenue. Other states heavily reliant on federal assistance include Louisiana (40.1 percent), Tennessee (39.9 percent), Montana (39.1 percent), and Kentucky (38.5 percent). As we have previously noted, these states, and others that rely heavily on federal assistance, tend to have modest tax collections and a relatively large low-income population.

Other states have comparatively low reliance on federal aid. North Dakota relies on federal assistance for only 16.8 percent of its general revenue. Other less-reliant states include Virginia (22.8 percent), Connecticut (24.6 percent), Nevada (24.8 percent), and Hawaii (24.8 percent). Trends in these states are opposite those in federal aid-heavy states; they typically have higher tax revenues and a smaller low-income population. Nevada is somewhat of an outlier, however, as it is able to export a large portion of its tax burden through sales taxes due to tourism. North Dakota is also able to export much of its tax burden, through severance taxes.

So by keeping taxes low in their states, the red states suck up fed money.

Is it Illinois, the poster child for big-government excess?
Nope, not even close. As a matter of fact, those two jurisdictions are among the 10-least dependent states.


And if you’re guessing that the answer is New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, or some other “blue state,” that would be wrong as well.

Instead, if you check out this map from the Tax Foundation, the answer is Mississippi, followed by Louisiana, Tennessee, Montana, and Kentucky. All of which are red states!
So does this mean that politicians in red states are hypocrites who like big government so long as someone else is paying?

That’s one way of interpreting the data, and I’m sure it’s partially true. But for a more complete answer, let’s look at the Tax Foundation’s explanation of its methodology. Here’s part of what Morgan Scarboro wrote.

In other words, red states may have plenty of bad politicians, but what the data is really saying – at least in part – is that places with a lot of poor people automatically get big handouts from the federal government because of programs such as Medicaid and food stamps. So if you compared this map with a map of poverty rates, there would be a noticeable overlap.

Moreover, it’s also important to remember that the map is showing the relationship between state revenue and federal transfers. So if a state has a very high tax burden (take a wild guess), then federal aid will represent a smaller share of the total amount of money. By contrast, a very libertarian-oriented state with a very low tax burden might look like a moocher state simply because its tax collections are small relative to formulaic transfers from Uncle Sam.

Indeed, this is a reason why the state with best tax policy, South Dakota, looks like one of the top-10 moocher states in the map.


This is why it would be nice if the Tax Foundation expanded its methodology to see what states receive a disproportionate level of handouts when other factors are equalized. For instance, what happens is you look at federal aid adjusted for population (which USA Today did in 2011), or maybe even adjust it for the poverty rate as well (an approached used for the Moocher Index).

P.S. For what it’s worth, California has the nation’s most self-reliant people, as measured by voluntary food stamp usage.

P.P.S. And it’s definitely worth noting that the federal government deserves the overwhelming share of the blame for rising levels of dependency in the United States.

But even if that's the case, I've heard several states have been mooches for decades, Georgia, Alabama, etc etc .....and I'm against it ALL. They've been mooching too long.

And don't forget, it was only recently revealed by Trump that the people living in 'high tax' Blue states actually get to deduct their state taxes off of their federal taxes. Talk about a workaround.

I knew about it because I did my taxes, not that I ever deducted my state tax. You have to have a certain level of deduction to be able to do it. Sort of like deducting your home
