Sep. 5—CHIPPEWA FALLS — A 21-year-old Fairchild man accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl at a park in Chippewa Falls in July 2021 will serve 90 days in jail.
Dylan J. Olson pleaded no contest Friday in Chippewa County Court to an amended felony count of third-degree sexual assault. He was originally charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child under age 16.
Along with the jail sentence, Judge Steve Gibbs ordered Olson to complete a sex offender treatment course, serve three years of probation, and have no contact with the victim. Olson also will have to register as a sex offender and pay a $518 fine. He also must submit a DNA sample.
Olson declined to address the court before being sentenced.
Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell told Gibbs he agreed with the recommended sentence.
"This recommendation is based on the nature and the background of what occurred," Newell told Gibbs. "I believe it is fair based on the totality of the circumstances."
Defense attorney Ryan Moertel requested that Olson have up to 60 days to report to jail, and Gibbs granted that request. Olson also will receive Huber work release privileges and can serve his sentence in another county if there is no cost to Chippewa County.
According to the criminal complaint, the girl told authorities she had sex with Olson on three different occasions in Erickson Park during the summer months. When confronted by police, Olson initially denied the sexual relationship, but later admitted to it. At the time of the incident, Olson lived in Barron.
As terms of his probation, Olson cannot have any unsupervised contact with the juvenile victim or with any juvenile females.

It seems like this goes under equal treatment under the law. How is it some people are doing 20 years in prison for having sex with a 17 year old and we have other people only doing 90 days for having sex with a 13 year old? It seems outrageous to me that someone can have sex with a thousand 16 year olds in Georgia and it is not even a crime whereas one state over that would be a life sentence.

Wow! Everyone seemed so accommodating to the young gentleman who did what he did to a CHILD! It's wonderful how the judicial system works for some, but fails others!
It seems like this goes under equal treatment under the law. The Judge needs a review for sure...he must have had a moment where he put himself in the perps shoes 'hum I got what i wanted often with this CHILD" so the judge is gonna go along with the fact the CHILD went against her parents wishes I am sure about that; if that was MY child she would be grounded until she was 18 and I would have put the creep in a cell for a long time. I would have had to say 'NO JUDGE that is not acceptable at all any child compromised by a person more than double their age, should get a lengthy sentencing. The kid needs a shrink to make the kid see how wrong this man was to pursue her and make her understand relations with a grown person is an attack not a date. Judge needs to sit in same cell. grrrrrr!!

There are numerous posts attacking the judge, which is understandable. The DA agreed with the appropriateness of the sentence according to the article. There is nothing in the article about the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the minor objecting to the sentence. I doubt that we will ever read the details ...See more

The sex offender registration is effectively a death sentence. Can’t get a job, rent an apartment, or go anywhere. EVen his passport in marked so most countries won’t allow entry. Self appointed vigilantes will harass him forevermore.

Was this 13 year old in the park singing I wanna know what love is or something ? I know I have many times said a Man has a good time with a 17 year old he gets 30 years in prison 10 years on probation and life as an offender yet a female has a good time with a 14 year old and they give her a hug and say please don't do that be a good girl. but 90 days Seems to me a lot was not told in this story if a Man only got 90 days for loving a 13 year old girl in the park after dark and did it a few times no less.

There are lots of factors that the article may have missed, obviously. Perhaps the guy was a little slow, not incompetent or handicapped but close enough to it. Perhaps they met at a college party and she lied about her age and otherwise he would have a bright future. Now he still can.
