"I loved Sixteen Candles when I was young, thought it was the funniest movie ever. So I grew up, had a son, he grew up to be a huge movie buff, so I finally showed it to him.
He didn't laugh once.
'The entire movie is about how much fun date rape is, incredible destruction of someone's hard-earned property, and a ridiculously racist portrayal of the Asian guy. I can't believe anyone ever thought that was funny.'
Totally ruined it for me."

Forget going anywhere near Blazing Saddles, I watched a very dumb movie from back in the late 80s www.imdb.com/title/tt0095384/?ref_=fn_al_tt_3 and all I could think was "Well, they'd frown upon that....and that....and that these days."
Sometimes dopey teen movies are just that. Not everything is deep and meaningful. In fact, I'd venture to guess MOST things are not.

To be honest, the current cultural circumstances we live in has simply caused me to enjoy many of my favourite films and TV series even more. I still enjoy them for the same reasons I always have, but now, whenever a "problematical" scene appears, it gives me an giggle to think of all those woke SJWs who will suffer a conniption fit should they ever encounter it. I really am getting value for money from my DVD collection and YouTube.  |
