Mckenzie has given thought to why L.A. has failed so miserably to fix its stubborn homelessness crisis. Homeless people bear a searing stigma that is hard to shake, she said. As long as housed residents turn their eyes away from people living in wretched conditions, Mckenzie doesn't see a solution.
“They think it’s like a facade. … Like, it’s really raining, we’re really walking by. And there’s like freaking people just sleeping in the f— rain with no blankets,” she said.
“We’re still part of the community, still part of the world. They just need to show a little bit more dedication in trying to figure out how to make fellow human beings" better.

LA did not fail her, the world did not fail her, She failed herself. I am sorry but I am 64 on 1000 dollars a month for social security which I paid into for over 40 years and the government keeps sending money to people who do not want out. She can afford a cell phone, the piercings, the tattoos, and she failed after being given help. I no longer feel sorry for these individuals. They have feet if they don't like it somewhere move! She is a micro population which wants us to feel sorry so we can give more money so she can continue to use drugs at tax payer expenses. California has spent millions and still has not learned that most of the homeless are homeless by choice. Tax payer money going for drugs and crime. The writer neglected to state how much California has spent on homelessness and how much private organizations have spent. They all failed. There is a book which states Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. We keep giving a fish a day and it cost us. She is a victim of circumstances she created with no Gaul to pull up her boot straps and roll up her shirt sleeves to go to work. Even having a baby could not get her to do the right thing.
