Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall claim Paramount 'forced' them to cast a white actor in 'Coming to America'
Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall appeared Monday on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote the long-awaited Coming to America sequel, Coming 2 America. During the interview, they also revealed that Paramount Pictures forced them to cast a white actor in the original 1988 film. That actor was Louie Anderson, who played Maurice.
“I love Louie, but I think we were forced to put Louie in it,” said Hall. “We were forced to put in a white person.”
Murphy also recalled Paramount Pictures executives insisting that the film not have an all black cast. He said, “They were like, ‘There has to be a white person in the movie.’ I was like, ‘What?’ So who was the funniest white guy around? We knew Louie was cool, so that's how Louie got in the movie.”
Hall claims that the studio actually gave them a list of white actors to choose from. “It was official,” said Hall. “I had a list. They gave me a list with three white guys. They said, ‘Who would you rather work with?’ I said, ‘Louie.’”
Anderson also appears in the sequel film, which comes out March 5 on Amazon Prime Video.

Would Morgan Freeman even be a star if movies weren't forced to put in a black person? He was pretty much a bit actor until he became the only black man in 12th Century England and got to fight along side Kevin Costner.
Don't get me wrong. I love Morgan Freeman. He's a great actor. But a black guy fighting with Robin Hood and his Merry Men? C'mon. The character was shoehorned into a story simply for the sake of diversity.
And don't get me started on "Mary Queen of Scots."
And when a white person shows up on a "black" TV show or movie, they're almost always either stupid, racist or both.
Some might say that, "turnabout is fair play" as black characters were often the "comic relief" for "white" entertainment, but, while it might seem like fair play, it's simply further engendering separation and fomenting conflict.
A study was just done that shows that black female leads are way more likely to portray "smart" women in STEM fields than white women.
You'd think that that would be a good thing, right?
Nope.
Nope.
It seems the "smart" black women are too light-skinned. Yup. You heard me. It seems there's a new "one drop" rebellion on the horizon.
I'm going out tonight with some friends from Zambia and Tanzania and they are going to laugh their asses off at this stuff when I tell them.
