I have to admit that I've never really understood HOW so many executives can receive the paychecks they do IF stockholders and their dividends are the highest priority for any business?
But caps? It just seems like more force being applied.
Let's say 9 out of 10 companies have extremely high CEO pay.........but the 10th does not. Wouldn't give that 10th company a competitive advantage when it comes to having more money to attract the best employees and invest in improvements?
I say 'Nay'..........because how soon before the next logical step of full blown communism where EVERYONE's pay is set from on high?

1.
2. I'd ask how that force would affect you but I think we'll get to that in a moment...
3. By that logic, wouldn't a cap make all 10 companies competitive? Isn't competition good?
4. I think that's because you're viewing "cap" as an intransigent number. What if the "cap" is based on a multiple of average employee pay? That's not communism. In fact, what you just said is simply more proof that you have no idea what communism is.
I also hate to tell you but your pay has already been set from on high... within the company. There's going to come a point where you are going to max out on raises when the value of your job to the company and the maximum amount the company is willing to pay for that value meet. At that point, you are either going to stay while your pay stagnates and inflation grows or they're just going to fire you and find someone willing to take the minimum pay and then repeat the cycle you have just been pushed out of.
There is also the possibility of promotion which would change your pay scale range, but then the company has to determine if your current skill set is a match for the new duties and responsibilities that would be given over to you.

3. Does a cap make even 2/3rds of the NFL competitive? It seems to be a good way to breed a lot more mediocrity, imo. I've heard it's been said in order to attract the top talent/minds.......companies need to fork over those large salaries and golden parachutes. I'm just not sure it'd leave those people looking into other fields if the pay wasn't quite so exorbitant. Just like the NFL...........where else are these people gonna pull in a few $Million/year?
4. Blah blah blah...... I just do not like the idea of mandated limitations. I like the idea of piece meal pay, too. One person cranks out twice the amount as a coworker? They should be making about tqice as much, no?
No need to tell me that. I've been in it more than once. My previous job as a clerk was in a slowly dying business........but I enjoyed going to work and I certainly wasn't going to hit my boss up for more pay when I knew he was kinda doing me a favor by keeping the doors open as long as he did. THAT has sorta been one of my major complaints against illegal immigration.........people coming from 2nd and 3rd world countries totally willing to work for less $Money. That kept the wages stagnant for quite some time, imo. And it will do so again now that the Establishment is getting their way yet again.
I'm sure you're also aware that a portion of the supposed 'wage gap' between men and women is simply that guys tend to ask/demand more money now and then. So just asking, gets you more than never asking or not asking nearly as often.

lemme just add this when it comes to those CEO types, though.......... maybe their pay should be directly tied to how successful the business runs?
If the company doesn't do well, then their pay reflects that

3. Is there a CEO salary cap in the NFL? Get your oranges away from my apples!
4a. And yet you live your life based on mandated limitations
4b. So it's the fault of the illegals and not the people that keep hiring them? You are such a racist idiot.

Sooooo... just pay them a % of the net profits?
OK
What about the workers? Shouldn't they be in on this profit-sharing too since it's their work that makes the CEO's decisions successful?
And wouldn't that percentage of profits represent a "cap"?

Lots of places offer profit sharing.
But if that's a real desire for many.........Co-Op arrangements are still on the table, right?
That cap is based on the reality of profits and losses..........as opposed to just some number plucked from the sky

Again, no one is plucking a number from the sky.
If your idea of a cap - and it would be a cap - is to base it off of profits, then OK. I have your answer: You are FOR caps generated that way.
Got it.

Are you sure? The NFL has a team salary cap..........no matter how much profits the league may see that year.
In the case of a league that is growing with each year, wouldn't you want it directly tied to that growth?
As opposed to something like the WNBA which has never made money?

I understand your resistance and wanting to walk a very thin line..........but I'm just noting the reality of actual salary caps in play currently and the effects they have.
While you're proposing some sort of new reality where the Govt? imposes hard salary caps in the world of business?
Don't forget, this would be the very same Govt that hasn't kept to a hard cap on their $Spending for how many decades now? And they should
While I agree with you that it boggles the mind CEOs often make ridiculous amounts......... I don't see how that competitive environment doesn't sorta self-regulate itself? If a company over reaches and shells out to much to poor management...........it then naturally goes bankrupt, right? (Unless the Govt steps in and bails them out, of course) Whoops

I'm not walking a thin line. It's quite clear in the OP.
And I'm not proposing anything but a question: Should CEO's have salary caps.
You said: "Yes, in the form of a % of net profits."
Thank you for your answer.
