and 1.7% of those infected have already died. That's about 0.04 percentage points lower than the global figure, but you have to remember that the other 7.5 billion people in the world don't have our wealth and technology.
It's now a year and a day since the first Covid death in the US and a year and 3 days since Trump declared that the 15 cases would soon be ZERO!
South Korea had the same numbers on the same days. How are they doing now?
Their infection rate is 0.17% compared to our 8.7% and their death rate is exactly the same.
Italy and Spain were both hit hard early on and still have death rates at or higher than the global average, but their infection rate has steadily decreased while the US rate increased.
Japan, one of the most densely populated countries in the world, has an infection rate of just 0.34% and a death rate at 1.8% (nearly identical to ours).
On the plus side, the "new daily infections" have been dropping steadily since their high point on "insurrection day" and the "new daily deaths" has been following suit. It's pretty much the same wherever vaccinations are "readily" available.
But just imagine if the US had done like SK and Japan and ordered people to mask, distance, and keep gatherings small. Imagine our infection rate at 0.3%.
Less than a million people would have been infected and less that 17,000 would have died... sort of like a year with a mild flu.
Yet so many of my fellow Americans cry, "But... FREEDOM!"
To which I still reply, "Freedom ain't worth shit if you're dead."

That's what happens when people stupidly politicize a pandemic.

That's what happens when people stupidly politicize a pandemic. Yup And both sides did their fair share on that front.
Just because you're on the right side doesn't mean you're doing the right thing.

Indeed, trying to save lives is not the right thing.

Indeed, trying to save lives is not the right thing. Wasting time screaming about and at Donnie Dimwit was the wrong thing. He wasn't going to listen anyway and was just as likely to dig in his heels and make things worse.

It got him out of office, so it was eventually the right thing.

Him doing the wrong thing got him out of office. People actually voting rather than sitting on their apathetic asses got him out of office.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Had Trump chosen to do the right thing such as empower the CDC and governors; had he promoted the three simple rules (wash your hands, wear a mask, and keep your distance) he would have won in a landslide.
HE chose wrong. None of the screaming of "the left" nor any of Pelosi's machinations and theatrics had a damn thing to do with his defeat.

That won't be so bad. We'll have time to prepare. Prepare...? An escape route? That or find a decent candidate among the Democrats. I doubt Joe will live out his term and Harris won't be able to win in 2024. Should Joe live long enough to seek another term, he'll be so old that he won't be able to muster the support he needs to win the nomination, let alone the presidency.
That's my call and I'm sticking to it.

I think he's previously stated he only intended to serve one term if he were elected. Which means the Democrats are either planning to prepare KH to ascend to the presidency... or they have another replacement in mind. If she ends up serving three terms as VP under two different presidents - best case scenario - she would certainly have plenty of experience to occupy the top job.

Libs' complaining their way to the ballot/mail box did it; your point about his cartoonish incompetence is true as well. It's like he has to do the opposite of the smart thing at all times.
