Man charged with murder after breaking up fight on San Diego bus By Snejana Farberov May 2, 2022 12:11pm Updated A 55-year-old man was jailed Sunday on suspicion of murder in the death of a man involved in a violent disturbance aboard a bus downtown, police said. Edward Hilbert broke up a fight between a man and woman on the bus, and forcibly restrained the man who later died, police said. ONSCENE.TV
A bus rider in San Diego has been charged with first-degree murder after he broke up a fight between a male and female passenger, then forcibly restrained the man for several minutes, killing him, cops said.
Edward Hilbert, 55, was arrested early Sunday for allegedly killing the 28-year-old man aboard the downtown city bus in California.
According to the San Diego Police Department, officers were called to the area of 1400 F Street for a disturbance on a bus operated by the Metropolitan Transit Service shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday, reported CBS8.
When cops boarded the bus, they discovered the 28-year-old man who had been restrained lying motionless on the floor.
The victim was given first aid and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead within two hours. His name has not yet been released pending the notification of next of kin.
Homicide detectives have determined that the victim had gotten into a fight with a woman on the bus, and that the 6-foot-3, 234-pound Hilbert intervened and held down the man for several minutes, according to Lt. Steve Shebloski with the San Diego Police Department.
It was not immediately known if any of the three previously knew each other.
While the victim was being restrained by Hilbert, he passed out and experienced medical distress, authorities said. His cause of death remained unknown as of Monday morning.
Hilbert is being held without bail in the San Diego County jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on a charge of first-degree murder Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
WTH is with these charges BEFORE any actual medical test results are in?

Yeah, it was taken outside and shot in the back of the head.
It wasn't even offered a last meal, a last smoke or anything.

Green Bay woman facing up to 5 years in prison for alleged spitting incident with police by: Devin Willems Posted: May 2, 2022
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – A woman from Green Bay is facing three charges after an incident with police at the Walmart in Bellevue.
According to the criminal complaint, on May 1 around 6:50 p.m. deputies responded to the Walmart store in Bellevue for a reported retail theft in progress. A woman was allegedly concealing items in a black bag.
The woman was later identified as 20-year-old Destiny Gurholt. Witnesses said that Gurholt was seen selecting items that added up to $143.72.
When officers spoke with Gurholt, she refused to identify herself and was ignoring commands. Gurholt said she had money and was going to pay for the items.
With the help of a Fast ID machine, Gurholt was identified and she reportedly had a warrant out for her arrest. When deputies tried to bring her to the squad car she refused to walk and tried to kick at authorities.
Gurholt then allegedly spit at deputies when she was in the squad car. She is facing the following three charges:
Throw or Discharge Bodily Fluids at Public Safety Worker Felony Up to three and a half years in prison
Obstructing an Officer Misdemeanor Up to nine months in prison
Bail Jumping Misdemeanor Up to nine months in prison
Court records show that Gurholt is scheduled to appear in court on May 3 at 2 p.m. Local 5 will update this story if more details are released.

Surely running with a gun is even worse? You could trip, drop it and shoot your load before you're ready...

Man charged with murder after breaking up fight on San Diego bus
WTH is with these charges BEFORE any actual medical test results are in? Do you think the guy was dead before he was grabbed?
No, but I'd expect proof of a direct cause before charges are filed.
The arrested guy stuck around and waited for police, so he's obviously available for questioning or charges later if necessary.
Plus, we don't know if just the act of getting into a fight with this gal, or the exertion of tussling led to his death. As opposed to some sort of chokehold or strike the now charged fella delivered.
It's too much to ask to have that info before charges are filed? There seems to be quite a few cases like this where the DA is in a rush (to please the mob, perhaps?) and it ends up backfiring as they rush to judgement, look like fools later and end up overcharging.......which a jury then can not find itself convicting on.

I noticed you did not comment on the man breaking up a fight between the genders, though?

You are confusing the bringing of charges with "indictment."

Ah, that may be........but you don't feel they're sorta rushing things?
It's not like a completely unprovoked attacked without rhyme or reason.

But the thread title brushed along the topic of chivalry. Which I've found to be in a very, very funny state these days.
There's still a ton of females that expect males to 'step up' at the drop of a hat, even for strangers. Which I find odd........ especially when it involves 2 fighters in a relationship

1. Nope. What are they supposed to do, say, "Excuse me, but it would be nice if you could stay in town for a couple days so we can decide whether or not to charge you with murder"?
You know why we don't actually do that, "Don't leave town" shit any more? It doesn't work. People leave town and it costs all sorts of taxpayer money to track them down.
2. The guy got into the middle of something that was none of his business.
3. (combining subthreads) I can't even say that the man was acting chivalrously or idiotically until I know some more info about the woman involved and what the fight was about.
