All that very decent land taking up space for what? To house the remains of humans? Doesn't seem very in tune with nature.

Can you not understand what they are for? It is to help with the grieving process and to show respect for those who have gone before us. The act of trimming the weeds around the gravestone, placing flowers, etc. is a way to touch base. Also visiting and communicating with the dearly departed is a source of great comfort. But understanding all this would require an emotionally developed human being.

^^^Disrespectful...and not particularly well thought out. But at the very least, you managed to get a like out of it.

For myself, while I appreciate that others might require a cemetery or a graveyard for the purposes you suggest, I don't personally share the need. However, each to their own.

Of observing, but perhaps not yet ready to fully contribute to the conversation? There are many possible connotations... some positive, some negative, some neutral. Once again, each to their own.

Can't even ask questions anymore?
I've often wondered how they operate as a sustainable business? Does that amount paid for a plot get put aside and earns interest so that the upkeep and operation of the business remains intact?
Do they keep track of plots that have not been visited in decades?

1. Are you asking me a question?! How dare you! 2. I can't speak for what happens in your country, but here, I assume the local city council maintains the cemetery, along with their other services, by using a portion of the council rates they collect from their residents. 3. I'm not sure how widely this is practiced, but I've heard that there are many places that impose a time limit on individual gravesites. Eventually, they are cleared out and reused for other "clients".

I know we're not there........YET. but whenever I see these little made up shrines where a person has died in an accident or murder, I often wonder how long til they run out of room for more?
We have such weird beliefs on the deceased, too. Whether it's the graveyard built over in Poltergeist.......... or the remains of people from long ago needing to be handled with such care and delicacy so as not to offend?
I brought it up awhile ago this aversion many people have to living in a home where someone has passed away? Sooner or later, that's pretty much an eventuality, isn't it?

I take it that you've never buried a family member.
Private cemeteries make money not only in the manner you suggested but also from the (usually) one-time fees associated with the digging of the grave, use of the on-site chapel etc.
Let's keep the number simple: If the plot per burial is 15 square feet and one acre is 43,560 that's a hair over 2,900n plots. The average price per plot is about $3,600. That's close to $10.5 million in revenue per acre.
Oddly, those mausoleum type situations where you see huge walls of marble are even more expensive and take up even less land.
Let's face it, if the business model weren't sustainable, there wouldn't be any private cemeteries in the US.

I haven't been required to do so personally.
Those mausoleums seem even creepier as a final resting spot........but oddly sanitary.
I find it interesting when there's money to be made down many different revenue streams......the flowers, the funeral home, the headstones, etc

It's common internet etiquette.Well if I give it (lectures) I guess I ought to be able to take it. By the way the United Nations just contacted me. They claim that you've lost some of your famous diplomacy, and they no longer want you.
