You're probably more familiar with him by the name Marilyn Manson.
He's been in the music industry for over 30 years but has only been really popular for the last 25 or so. During that time, he has built a reputation for being a gifted artist and major-league scumbag. Here's the thing. People knew he was a scumbag way back in the mid-90's. He was a hard-drinking, drug-using, violent rock-n-roller.
How could anyone look at that guy, read about his antics, and think, "I'm sure he's just a teddy bear once the makeup comes off. I'm sure he's not abusive or anything."?
Evan Rachel Wood is just the latest in a long line of women who have previously been in relationships with Manson and cited that their breakups had to do with his abusive behavior.
Here's the thing. Wood started the relationship KNOWING about these previous relationships and moving ahead with it anyway.
"But she was just a child!"
"But she was just a child!"
Sorry, hypocrisy-masters. I'm not buying it. The same magazines blathering on about her being "just a child" are the same ones that praised her for being "wise beyond her years" (when she was 19 and had already been in a relationship with Manson for a year already) and for taking on such subjects as sexual abuse which she said at the time was an important topic that needs to be discussed.
We're supposed to believe that she was a champion of educating young women about sexual abuse but somehow didn't know she was already in an abusive relationship?
"But the pre-frontal cortex of people under the age...."
Blah blah fucking blah. We allow 18-year-olds to drive cars. We allow them to live on their own. We allow them to drink (in most western countries). We allow them to fight and die for their countries. We allow them to vote for who they want to lead those countries that they're allowed to die for. We even allow them to have sex.

But when they screw up by making bad choices, we revert to all this psycho-babble.
"Stop blaming the victim!"
When you create a society that stops creating victims, I'll stop blaming them.
Jesus Motherhumping Christ!
Rose McGowan broke off her relationship with Manson 4 to 5 years before Wood entered into her relationship with him. McGowan was 25 when she started the relationship. Of course her two prior relationships had been abusive as well and she lived in a society where she was allowed to become emancipated from her parents at the age of 15.
15!
Our society decided that at 15 years of age, Rose McGowan was "mature" enough to make her own decisions about her life.
Ooopsie!
Ooopsie!
Obviously, she wasn't. And if 18 isn't old enough either, then we need to stop letting 18-year-olds drive, drink, fuck, fight, and vote.
Don't like that idea?
Fine. Call them "adults" and tell them that their stupid decisions are their own fucking problem.
Maybe when women stop going out with scumbag abusers, the scumbag abusers will get the message and try to change their ways.
Who knows? It just might work if we try it.
