On June 8, 2010, Uranium One announced it had signed an agreement that would give “not less than 51%” of the company to JSC Atomredmetzoloto, or ARMZ, the mining arm of Rosatom, the Russian nuclear energy agency.

At the time, Uranium One’s two licensed mining operations in Wyoming amounted to about “20 percent of the currently licensed uranium in-situ recovery production capacity in the U.S.,” according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. In-situ recovery is the extraction method currently used by 10 of the 11 licensed U.S. uranium producers.

So a  CANADIAN company agreed to be sold to a Russian agency. 
You know, like the Keystone Pipeline is carrying Canadian oil across America to be refined.

The Committee on Foreign Investments has nine members, including the secretaries of the treasury, state, defense, homeland security, commerce and energy; the attorney general; and representatives from two White House offices (the United States Trade Representative and the Office of Science and Technology Policy).

The committee can’t actually stop a sale from going through — it can only approve a sale. The president is the only one who can stop a sale, if the committee or any one member “recommends suspension or prohibition of the transaction,” according to guidelines issued by the Treasury Department in December 2008 after the department adopted its final rule a month earlier.

For this and other reasons, we have written that Trump is wrong to claim that Clinton “gave away 20 percent of the uranium in the United States” to Russia. Clinton could have objected — as could the eight other voting members — but that objection alone wouldn’t have stopped the sale of the stake of Uranium One to Rosatom.

“Only the President has the authority to suspend or prohibit a covered transaction,” the federal guidelines say.

First, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission had to approve the transfer of two uranium recovery licenses in Wyoming from Uranium One to the Russian company. The NRC announced it approved the transfer on Nov. 24, 2010. But, as the NRC explained at the time, “no uranium produced at either facility may be exported.”

As NRC explained in a March 2011 letter to Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming, the Russian company would have to apply for and obtain an export license and “commit to use the material only for peaceful purposes” in accordance with “the U.S.-Russia Atomic Energy Act Section 123 agreement for peaceful nuclear cooperation.”

In a June 2015 letter to Rep. Peter Visclosky, the NRC said it granted RSB Logistics Services an amendment to its export license in 2012 to allow the Kentucky shipping company to export uranium to Canada from various sources — including from a Uranium One site in Wyoming. The NRC said that the export license allowed RSB to ship uranium to a conversion plant in Canada and then back to the United States for further processing.

Canada must obtain U.S. approval to transfer any U.S. uranium to any country other than the United States, the letter says

you use the term 'debunked'......... and I call it political tap dancing. THEY allowed Russia to buy uranium from this hemisphere when they could have stopped it. But they didn't. Probably because it enriched them. THOSE are the facts.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Justice Department said on Wednesday it has charged a Missouri man for leaving threatening voicemails for an election official in Arizona, marking the sixth federal criminal case brought so far to combat the rising tide of threats against local election officials.

Walter Lee Hoornstra, 50, of Tecumseh was charged in an indictment handed down on Tuesday with one count of communicating an interstate commerce threat and a second count of making a threatening phone call.

The indictment alleges Hoornstra left a voicemail on a Maricopa County election official's personal cell phone saying: "You call things unhinged and insane lies when there’s a forensic audit going on. You need to check yourself. You need to do your [expletive] job right because other people from other states are watching your ass. You [expletive] renege on this deal or give them any more troubles, your ass will never make it to your next little board meeting.”

The indictment did not identify which official was the target of the threats. But a spokesperson for Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer confirmed to Reuters that Richer is in fact the victim in the case.

On Twitter, Richer thanked the FBI for its work on the case, but said he is not alone in facing threats.

"Unfortunately, I have PLENTY more to keep them busy," he wrote. "And, even worse, so too do some of the non-public facing members" of the county's recorder and elections offices.

Last year, the Justice Department launched an election threats task force. The increase in threats coincided with false claims by former Republican President Donald Trump that the 2020 election had been stolen due to widespread voter fraud.

In the 2020 election, Arizona was one of the key battleground states. President Joe Biden won Maricopa County, Arizona's most populous county, by about 45,000 votes, making it crucial to his narrow victory.

Election officials in Maricopa County later refuted a partisan audit run by Trump's allies and carried out by a private company called Cyber Ninjas which tried to cast doubt on Biden's win.

In an investigative series published last year, Reuters documented more than 850 threats and menacing messages to U.S. election workers.

Since the task force was launched, the Justice Department has reviewed more than 1,000 contacts reported as hostile or harassing by the election officials and volunteers.

Of those, about 11% have met the legal standards necessary to launch a federal criminal investigation.

The identity of Hoornstra's lawyer could not immediately be determined. If convicted on both counts, Hoornstra could face up to seven years in prison.

In June of this year, seven weeks before the FBI raided former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in search of classified materials, former Defense Department appointee and outspoken Trump loyalist Kash Patel vowed to retrieve classified documents from the National Archives and publish them on his website.

Trump had just issued a letter instructing the National Archives to grant Patel and conservative journalist John Solomon access to nonpublic administration records, according to reporting at the time.

Patel, who under Trump had been the chief of staff for the acting defense secretary, claimed in a string of interviews that Trump had declassified a trove of "Russiagate documents" in the final days of his administration. But Patel claimed Trump's White House counsel had blocked the release of those documents, and instead had them delivered to the National Archives.

"I've never told anyone this because it just happened," Patel said in an interview on a pro-Trump podcast on June 22. "I'm going to identify every single document that they blocked from being declassified at the National Archives, and we're going to start putting that information out next week."

Patel did not provide a clear explanation of how he would legally or practically obtain the documents.

"White House counsel and company disobeyed a presidential order and implemented federal governmental bureaucracy on the way out to basically send the stash to the National Archives, and now that's where it's at," Patel said in a subsequent interview on June 23 on a different pro-Trump internet show.

Trump and his allies have for years pushed aggressively to declassify materials related to the FBI's "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation that examined alleged ties between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia -- a probe that was later put under the control of Robert Mueller following his appointment as special counsel. Patel, who previously served under then-Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) during Nunes' time as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, has claimed that nonpublic information provided to Congress undercut the Russia probe and helped support Trump's claim that the investigation lacked merit.

The day before he left office, Trump authorized the declassification of a set of documents related to the Russia probe. The memorandum, released in January 2021, acknowledged that "portions of the documents in the binder have remained classified and have not been released to the Congress or the public."

So according to Patel, Trump asked him to work on retrieving the classified documents from the National Archives and then release them to the public. "President Trump was like, 'Who knows those documents better than anyone?' And I was like, 'If you want me to go, I'll go,'" Patel said.

"I know what's there" in the Archives, said Patel. "I can't still talk about them, but the whole process is going to be: Identify the documents, whether it's Russiagate, Hunter Biden, impeachment, Jan 6th -- and put them out."

Erica Knight, a spokesperson for Patel, told ABC News that Patel was acting as "a representative on behalf of President Trump to work with the National Archives to get them to disclose information."

"The GSA has their own policies and procedures for how presidential records must be handled, which Patel is in full cooperation with," Knight said of the federal government's General Services Administration, an adjunct of the National Archives

Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik claimed Tuesday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home could end in Trump’s assassination.

The former president announced Monday evening that his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida had been raided by FBI agents that reportedly executed a search warrant in regards to an investigation into the allegedly improper removal of 15 boxes containing classified information to the residence.

Richard Grenell, the former acting director of National Intelligence under Trump, tweeted shortly after the raid that Biden “has weaponized the U.S. government for his political purposes,” calling it a “terrible precedent.” (RELATED: Trump Says FBI Raided Mar-A-Lago)

Kerik, responding to Grenell’s tweet, claimed, “And just like in other Third World countries, if today’s raid by Biden’s FBI does not stop Donald Trump from running for president in 2024, their next move will be Assassination.”


While Trump was in office, The New York Times Book Review section ran an article on its online and print edition that featured a novelist fantasizing about the former president’s assassination. The short story, titled “How it Ends” by Zoe Sharp, described a world where a Russian agent successfully assassinated the sitting U.S. President with the help of a Secret Service agent. The short story was featured in an October 2018 article titled, “Five Novelists Imagine Trump’s Next Chapter.”

“He closed his eyes and waited to pay the cost. It did not come. He opened his eyes. The Secret Service agent stood before him, presenting his Glock, butt first. Kerik served as the 40th NYPD police commissioner and worked alongside former Mayor Rudy Giuliani during the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York City.

The former commissioner received a full pardon from Trump in February 2020 after being sentenced to 48 months in federal prison for pleading guilty to eight felony charges, including failure to pay taxes. Kerik later served as the lead investigator for Trump’s election legal team that pushed election fraud claims.
