The organisers of an upcoming art history conference at the University of York in England have apologised for their use of the three monkeys in their call for submissions and removed it from their website.
“Upon reflection, we strongly believe that our first poster is not appropriate as its iconology promulgates a longstanding visual legacy of oppression and exploits racist stereotypes,” the organisers wrote in comments reported by The Times.
“We bring this to your attention, so that we may be held accountable for our actions and, in our privileges, do and be better.”

"Hear no evil. See no evil, Speak no evil." is a concept that has been revered in Buddhism, Hinduism, and Confucianism for over a couple thousand years. However, the first visual representation of this concept using monkeys if from 17th Century Japan. Even Gandhi, a man of few possessions, owned a set of the 3 Wise Monkeys.
What's next? Are we going to have to ban old cartoons like "Magilla Gorilla" or "Grape Ape"? That last one even has the word "grape" which is somehow racist as well, so that show must be horrible.
What about King Kong? I'm sure someone has already mentioned the whole, "Big, black ape tossed in chains for daring to love a white woman" angle, somewhere.

This shit about people making up reasons to be offended has got to stop!
What was the one a few months ago?
Oh yeah: "Master Bedroom" was offensive because it supposedly hearkens back to a time of slavery.
Bullshit!
It's a term that was invented by Sears Roebuck Company in 1926 in their home plans that featured a bedroom with an attached, private bathroom. It's not some remnant of a racist past.
What's next? No more Master Sergeants in the military? No more Master Chiefs in the Navy? No more Master Carpenters? Master Plumbers? Harbor Master? Masterpiece?
What about all those English naval history books that will have to strikeout the words "Master and Commander" so that no one is offended?
And if these words are so fucking offensive, certain people had best stop using the most offensive one of all amongst themselves.
One last thing: the original 3 Wise Monkeys carving from Japan were part of an 8-panel shrine depicting the stages of the life of mankind using monkeys. This picture here shows one of the other panels depicting mother and child:
It's not fucking racist!
Get your heads out of your asses.
