right place to post?
Aziz Ansari: Nightclub Comedian
I've caught a few of his specials before and thought he was about average to better than most for a stand up these days.
But this one was an odd one ............ to start with it's pretty short at around 30 minutes.
He opens with the typical mocking of a few celebs, to include Aaron Rodgers, on their refusal to vaccinate. But then he begs the audience to stop treating others as less than human or abandoning civility over covid. Odd approach, imo. Especially when viewing a large group of people crammed into a tight space like the Comedy Cellar and nobody wearing masks? Didn't they believe the science that just told them covid can be caught and passed by the vaccinated? Nothing like watching city folk believe they're so superior once again.
Strangely he avoided the #MeToo accusations of his own, which I would have thought he'd wanna address, confront and then move on from.
Lastly, he wrapped up this special with a unique take on the US, and possibly the world in general. He posed the question "You know who is worse than Trump? ALL of us.......collectively."
He goofily referred to how there was never enough money to pay to fix poverty/homelessness/etc etc........but with covid, there's suddenly enough money to pay EVERYONE to stay home and just keep buying stuff? (Totally ignoring just how many people STILL showed up to work this entire time)
Then he went on to point out all of the energy and passion drummed up in order to oust Trump from office........but then people are right back to their tired old ways of daily apathy, faux-concern and a seemingly endless interest in the not real world on the internet and their smart phones. To include even aiding China in it's pursuit of the latest facial recognition software and programming.
It was almost touching how he attempted to get people to think for themselves and do more on a personal level. But I left with the feeling it'll fade quickly for most of those people, too.
