Dendera is written by Yuya Sato.

When Kayu Saito wakes up, she is in an unfamiliar place. Taken to a snowy mountainside, she was left there by her family and her village according to the tradition of sacrificing the lives of the elderly for the benefit of the young. Kayu was supposed to have passed quickly into the afterlife. Instead, she finds herself in Dendera, a utopian community built over decades by old women who were abandoned like her. Together, they must now face a new threat: a savage bear who, like them, is female and hungry.

The Village sends people when they turn 70 up the mountain at the start of winter where the will be admitted to paradise. Fewer mouths to feed.

One gal chooses to live & for the last 30 yrs has been rescuing other women sent up the mountain. She does not save the old men.

I'm only got 2 chapters in yesterday (jury duty) so no bear yet

As viewers increasingly watch videos on mobile devices in public places, captions take on a greater importance. According to a survey conducted by Verizon Media and marketing and advertising agency Publicis Media, 80% of those who use captions don't have a hearing impairment. Also, 50% believe captions are important since they often watch videos with no audio, whether that's on a desktop or mobile device.

News 2Video viewing is increasingly done in public: 69% of those surveyed said they watched video with the sound off in public areas. What's more, 25% watch videos with no sound even in private. The top reasons given for watching with the sound off is that the viewer was in a quiet place, didn't have headphones, or was waiting in line.

Captions enhance video ads, as well, finds Verizon Media. For mobile viewers, seeing captions led to an 8% lift in ad recall and a 10% lift in ad memory quality. However, advertisers should be careful not to crowd the screen: Coupling a brand logo with captions on a mobile device led to a 12% decrease in ad memory. Doing so has a negative effect for highly emotional and visual ads.

“Leveraging captions isn’t just about addressing sound-off environments, it’s understanding the consumer mindset and creating greater advertiser opportunity than one would think,” says Helen Lin, chief digital officer for Publicis Media. “When done right, captioning not only does not detract from brand messaging, but leads to greater ad recall, memory quality, and brand linkage.”

I have felt old, physically, for awhile now.

And I use subtitles all the time. 1. Because it helps to understand dialogue when the hearing is fading. and 2. Because modern movies seem to favor explosions and dramatic music over leaving the conversation at a high enough level to actually understand what's being said.

My kid liked him.
I found him annoying.
And now he's "old".

I learned to use subtitles with anime. 
English dialogue with the Japanese translation to see how close the English version was. Sometimes they cheated & just ran the English script, but other times...

The American version of DBZ is VERY chatty. The Japanese has long minutes of silence. Goku & Chichi are very bumpkin vs Vegeta & Bulma who are more educated. Bulma is the inventor of the group, coming up with all the gadgets the Z Fighters could need, yet still the typical boy crazy teen girl in DB (when not talking science)

I know 1, maybe 2 tunes. And I'm aware he made a movie with Kim Basinger. 

I've known people that refused to view anything with subtitles. I'm OK with them. Amelie was a favorite of mine and Old Boy was interesting as heck, imo.

Nothing wrong with boy crazy teens.

They kinda refuse to accept the age of the planet at Billions of years, as well.

There was a creationist museum in the south that had cavemen riding dinosaurs.
