Mobil was pushing moss or algae for 5 minutes. Then fracking came along & that's cheaper. So it sounds like it's investors who are holding the reins on drilling. They got burned when prices dropped before. Remember? Remember everyone mocking Obama for suggesting we keep our tires inflated properly? Remember the whole 55 mph speed limit from Nixon we had for 22 yrs that saved like 150,000 barrels a day? Remember Trump threatening California over our emissions standards & making a giant deal out of throwing out the rules Obama put in place? Gas prices obviously didn't matter to car buyers Bestsellers from 2021 3. Chevrolet Silverado (519,774 units sold) EPA Fuel Economy, combined/city/highway (mpg) 16 / 14 / 19 2. Ram Pickup (569,388 units sold) EPA Fuel Economy, combined/city/highway (mpg) 22 / 20 / 25 1. Ford F-Series (726,004 units sold) EPA Fuel Economy, combined/city/highway (mpg) 19 / 16 / 22 Top 3 sellers being pick up trucks that aren't exactly fuel efficient speaks to our old love of horsepower. People flocked to the cars that get better mileage when prices shoot up, but run back to the trucks & stuff so quickly.
Again.........you for some reason expect businesses to be altruistic? Where are the oh so smart Gretas of the world when it comes to inventing an algae fuel that's cheaper than oil? Nowhere. Too busy protesting and making a name for themselves?
There are stock holders in other energy sources, too. Just because solar, wind and others don't seem to be delivering on the promises yet.......aren't they in it for the love of the planet and NOT profits?
Obama was being as silly as his wife with the school lunches. Those are common sense suggestions.......but it's also known most people don't have common sense. So why bother even bringing it up....or worse, trying to mandate it with Govt?
Yep, 55 MPH sucks if you're trying to get anywhere. It is an interesting bit of a physics problem to work on though.
California dictating to the auto industry has not been a good thing. Misguided over reach yet again.
You're preaching to the choir, merh. I've been a tiny car driver for decades. Fuel economy is my #1 concern when buying a car. But your Govt insists on 13 air bags in everything and won't even allow really tiny Kei cars to be sold here. So their CAFE standards are just another Govt ruse to pretend to care........like so many of your politicians.
People have ADHD and that's no lie. I remember thinking the same thing when Trump was in office, the Unemployment numbers hit record lows and Incomes rose.........and then it was reported that credit card debts rose as well. They forget and go right back to being foolish with money, too.

Yeah, I went too far on my cards when I moved so I have around $5000 to pay off as fast as I can. Working hard at it. I thought pay off the larger ones, but something I read said go for the highest interest one first. The interest rates are a big incentive to eliminate the balances.

OUCH! did it really run you $5K to move? IIRC, we spent about $400 on 2 Men and a truck for the heavy stuff, $40 for an afternoon rental of a U-Haul truck, .......and the rest we just made multiple trips with our cars.
IIRC, Dave Ramsey does want you to pay attention to the Interest Rates, but it seems the most effective way to pay those bills off quicker for most people is to pay the minimum on the larger, while paying off the smallest bills first. When you pay off your 10th smallest bill, then apply that payment to your 9th smallest bill......and so on and so on til you've got them all paid off.

Remember I had car trouble in the middle. That was a couple thousand to the dealer who didn't fix it, then to my mechanic who also didn't fix it. And I had to trash a lot of my furniture & buy new. Another thousand. I answered a call & instead of hanging up, I ended up agreeing to pay off a couple collection accounts, but that should help my credit down the road. The laptop I bought last year last payment is this month. (Originally $1000. I figure I won't need one for awhile.) And the dental bridge is also paid off (damn, those things are expensive). That was $2000. I see Russia is fucked on that. They get theirs from Germany, but that's closed off now & the Chinese ones are cheap crap.

It usually comes in multiples, doesn't it? Car breaks down, medical issues arise, service fees go up........all at the same time.
What do you need credit for? You're retired. You can simply run up as much debt as they'll let you get away with now and die knowing you were deeply in the Red. There's no more need to worry about the long term consequences, is there?
Yeah, Prometheus just mentioned how much less dental work is in China. But it did take 3 trips and a bit longer. So pluses and minuses.
Language, young lady!

With more American production, how do you figure oil would be as high?
And we should be mocking and abandoning NATO by now.

Language, young lady! I am looking at getting a new car in the next year. The problem is the Chinese implants, crowns, etc are poor quality.

Presumably that lobby money is considered an expense so that millions spent buying politicians doesn't affect profit. Interesting the 2 holdout democrats on Build Back Better are in the top 20 recipients of oil company donations.

I'd guess lobbying is now just a part of doing business. Like most corrupt places, DC has a price of admission.
Back in my day, when you bought a politician, that SOB stayed bought!
