Mechanics would often joke with Dad about wearing white gloves too.

He always kept his cars in tip-top condition and usually traded them in once they hit 20 000 miles on the odometer.

Sadly, it never happened, he died at age 27 from liver cancer.  He had classes in the University of Kansas' nuclear reactor building... hmmm. 

I lived in apartments across from that building and got breast cancer at 35.

Another guy that lived in those apartments got adult-onset acute myelocytic leukemia and died a few years after graduation.

Toyota sold very popular trucks back in the day of Back to the Future movies, the SR5..........but they soon tried to compete (not well by vehicles sold) with the LARGE American trucks when they introduced the T100. It was like a 3/4s size pickup compared to the Americans full sized standards.

They for some crazy reason got away from the more inexpensive but still wildly popular compact pickup........until recently, when Ford suddenly had big sales with their new small truck called the Maverick. And someone at Toyota figured out they've been selling the smaller Hilux overseas forever, WHY didn't they even bring it to the US?

I've said similar things about Honda kinda missing the boat and taking their customers for granted. Toyota and Honda are both excellent makes........but they don't have what I'd consider a truly inexpensive ENTRY LEVEL vehicle in their line ups.........which is why everywhere you look these days, you're seeing more and more Hyundais/Kias. Despite Hyundai not being nearly as reliable.

So Toyota is now finally bringing back their compact pickup to the US and I can only hope Honda brings their N-One to our shores, as well.

My vet's truck was circa 1980, so that was a while back.  Back then they were inexpensive, as was my original Corolla.  And yes, they - Toyota - don't have an inexpensive anything nowadays.  The Highlander Hybrid I just bought, a 2007, cost me $10,000.  Hopefully I will die before it does! The new ones go for over $40,000. YIKES!

Although the dog and the pelican are a definite highlight for me.
