We all know exactly where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news. Tell your story here or just leave a kind word or two. I was working for an animal shelter at the time, doing fundraising and awareness raising, I had been on the board of the shelter for years, and they needed me as a press liaison since management had undergone a big shift. I was driving north on a highway, headed into work when I heard the news on the radio about the first tower, and got a sick feeling in my gut. By the time I got into the office, the other tower had been hit. My colleague, who was in charge of a capitol campaign to add to and renovate the aging shelter, was watching the television in her office. We both watched, absolutely stunned, thinking of all the human life lost. Eventually, she said, well our work here is done. Every donor dollar in the land is going to this. No one is going to donate to an animal shelter. A few months later, we had both found other positions. It was a terrible day, and has haunted everyone's minds ever since. PBS did a documentary on the first anniversary, "Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero", an excellent piece looking at how the event affected everyone's faith or lack of it. They interviewed people of all faiths and non-believers. Most had lost someone close in the tragedy. A terrible day.
