THIS just made my day! My Dad and I used to use a lathe when I was a kid - fond memories! And in college, I studied Asian art history... so those carvings really appealed to me!

THIS just made my day! My Dad and I used to use a lathe when I was a kid - fond memories! And in college, I studied Asian art history... so those carvings really appealed to me! Then you need to come here to China. I'll show you art like you've never seen. I so wish that I could! But money is an issue... sadly. I love it that, in another post, you were talking about all the different temples around your area, where the "swastika" is displayed. I knew that it had been swiped by the Germans and had seen it in Asian art before. Sad, what bad human beings can damage - a long history of a culture. The Broken Cross got a really bad name. My own father rejected the image of the Peace symbol, because some nutty preacher said that it was a broken cross, and an anti-Christian symbol. So I had to censor my clothing and jewelry when he was around. Other than our disagreement on religion, he was a kind and good father. I am really fortunate that the art museum, that is about an hour away from me, has an extensive collection of Asian art, and one room with a huge, intricate wall hanging behind a statue of a Bodhisattva, and benches where one can sit and meditate.
