Quite sound reasoning, but try not to be too logical or sensible... After all, we're talking about Humans and how they think. And you know what that species is like. If I can figure it out, I assume that people with far more experience (and who get paid to think about it) can figure it out. You'd think so, but never underestimate the stupidity of otherwise "intelligent" people. Discovering this, again and again, throughout my life has been one of its major disappointments. It's also one of the reasons I'm now putting my faith in the cockroaches.

Or at least that's what he'd like the rest of us to think. That way everyone will be too afraid to stand up to him.

I dislike bullies. Over on V2, I suggested giving Putin some of his own treatment back... and didn't go down very well. But if you don't stand up to bullies, they have no reason to change their behaviour.

But if you don't stand up to bullies, they have no reason to change their behaviour. How would we give him his own treatment back? Get NATO to start holding some large scale wargames manoeuvres next to the Russian border, get some allied naval fleets to station themselves just outside territorial waters, make some public announcements about just how many nuclear weapons are targeted at strategic Russian locations... and name those locations. Abuse and harass Putin, his family, friends and supporters. Hurt them financially, name and shame them individually, target their businesses and properties and turn them into infamous worldwide pariahs who can't leave their own country. If Putin wants to rattle his sabre... rattle multiple bigger ones back. If he wants to intimidate others, intimidate him back. PS - Although I do realize that much of what I've mentioned is slowly starting to take place. PPS - Of course, you could always put a billion dollar bounty on Putin's head... and then see just how loyal his supporters truly are.

I'm a huge fan of going nuclear and always have been. If Chernobyl weighs on anyone's mind then I recommend the HBO mini-series of the same name so that they can see that it was caused by poor design and human malfeasance.
Also, I figured this is the perfect followup video:
This one is good too:

Whilst I can appreciate some of the advantages and benefits of "going nuclear", I cannot yet count myself among the converted. In fact, when it comes to the nuclear question, my entire philosophy can be summed up with one acronym: NIMBY. However, if anyone were to be capable of changing my mind on the subject, it'd be someone like Kyle Hill... or Carl Sagan.

I don't think Sagan is going to be posting anything anytime soon....

No, but perhaps at some point during his superlative but too short career, he said something that was relevant to our present conversation.

Sagan spoke often about using nuclear energy for good rather than bombs. Yes, if memory serves, I believe he thought it would be very useful for use in various space-orientated fields.

He was also big on cold fusion research but I think he was OK with nuclear energy plants. I can't recall him speaking against that at least.

That's been in my feed for a couple days now and I actually had it cued up in another tab just now.
Part of me wants to say, "C'mon Kyle. People know it's just a cartoon..." but then reality sets in and I'm lie, "Yeah. There's probably a lot of people who think they are 'nuke-yoo-lar' experts because they watch 'The Simpsons.'"
