The shopping cart is ultimate litmus test for whether a person is capable of self-governing.
To return the shopping cart is an easy, convenient task and one which we all recognize as the correct, appropriate thing to do. To return the shopping cart is objectively right.
There are no situations other than dire emergencies in which a person is not able to return their care. Simultaneously, it is not illegal to abandon your shopping cart. Therefore the shopping cart presents itself as the apex example of whether a person will do what is right without being forced to do it.
No one will punish you for not returning the shopping cart, no one will find you or kill you for not returning the shopping cart. You must return the shopping cart out of the goodness of your own heart. You must return the shopping cart because it is the right thing to do. Because it is correct.

a thought: Eventually, the labor costs of hiring people to collect carts will lead to robotic cart collectors, just as auto-check out and ordering kiosks are replacing cashiers.

In any place where I am free to exercise my personal will, leaving the cart wherever the fuck I feel like is objectively right. We have merely been socialized into believing that returning the cart is the right thing to do in order to reduce labor costs for the wealthy ruling elite!
See how easy it is to play?
Go ahead. Do another one.

The lowest paid workers collect carts. Even if they are returned to the corrals, someone has to fetch them from the corrals & take them to the front of the stores. My kid was hired as a courtesy clerk at a grocery store at age 16. Entry level. That job description barely changed from when my husband worked at a grocery store in the 80s. He was hired as a General Merchandise Clerk as a custodian, but they did have him stock some shelves from time to time.

And? It still comes down to the total cost and liability of those low paid workers versus the overall cost of a new robot. Sooner or later, I see them being replaced....... just like the cashiers.
My older and larger brother was hired in the same capacity...........he quit after he noticed that the girls especially, but even just smaller guys were never required to venture out if the weather was bad or the sheer amount of carts was too great. He was paid the same, but expected to do a greater share of the work. Where was his protest group?

My manager at Jack's regularly quietly circular filed all applications from minors because he hated dealing with the rules. Was he made of sugar that he would melt in the Rain? Glass? They have used courtesy clerks forever. How would these robots collect the carts? How many customer vehicles would they damage? Already they have things to assist the cart people in their tasks, but there still needs to be a human. Target is insane, the number of carts the clerk brings back.

IIRC, he was about 15-16 yrs old. What? Didja want the Govt to step in and make the Manager be fair?
Yep, the Govt often makes it a bigger pain in the ass than it's worth. That's called driving down business. The TRUE minimum wage is $0. All those that got circular canned didn't get the opportunity to make a single $Buck.
He didn't like slogging thru the slush and snow pushing ice cold metal carts........especially if was usually ONLY him doing it. Here's where many of these collectivist arguments fail all of the time.
We have robotic vacuum cleaners in our home right now. It's amazing how they've been programmed to go about their route day after day. Auto-pilot cars and trucks are on the horizon. You really think current tech couldn't build a simply cart collector? I say less than 10 years. Maybe it'll just be a Remote Controlled collector operated from inside the building. Killer drones have been in use by our military for years, too.
Do you agree with the theory that carts are a great example of how people are and function in society? I like it cuz it says a lot about a very simply thing. I still remember when covid was first clamping down and fear was at it's highest........and then all these human pigs started leaving their masks in parking lots and in carts. Medical waste? from people I'm supposed to care whether they catch an invisible virus floating around? HA!

Did the other parents bitch & complain to the store manager? Kids can't work past 8 pm on a school night & can only work so many hours a week because of the old child labor abuses where factories caught fire & kids burned to death. No one cared if a killer drone smashes a window. People care if their car gets dented by a robot cart collector. People are slobs. If they don't have to clean it up, they don't care. Rand always threw trash on the ground & he was a custodian

Why would the other parents complain? Their kids weren't being forced to do work. (Though in reality, my brother always had the freedom to quit......which he did)
There's a huge difference between kids burning to death and adults? Fire Safety laws are there for everyone.
I think the tech is already there to have auto-cart collectors that drive more safely than the average teen boy. We males are most dangerous in our teens and early 20s.
SEE? Every once in awhile you and I agree and you actually acknowledge the TRUTH about our species. I'm not the jerk for pointing it out. I'm just asking for others to admit it. I'm not supporting them being slobby pigs........just pointing it out.
WTH is with people? You provide them trash cans and expensive clean up/recycling campaigns........and yet there's still a certain amount that insist on being drains on everyone else.

You not only have to return your cart but if there's multiple kinds, you need to sort it properly.

Personally? I sorta grew up without actually observing much quality parenting. Unless you're counting TV?
I realize most Americans today have lost all concept of what work actually is.
It may be that for the overly religious types and those who intermittently believe that human life is so very precious. I am neither. I'm not all that concerned with the millions that will die from covid anymore than I am with the millions more that have been scraped out and vacuumed up over the years. +7 Billion is way too many people as it is, imo.
For the Children is also something I've been hearing for decades.........but it turns out it was all horseshyte. It was more about tax dollars going into union coffers and the expansion of Govt more than anything.

I saw a report in the early to mid 80s that claimed when Roe v Wade passed, things were pretty quiet. It was on in the 80s as churches saw their.memberships decline that suddenly they cared about all those aborted babies. So the churches are using it, dude.

Yesterday morning, at around 0650 hours, I pulled into a parking space near the doors to a supermarket that was due to open at 0700 hours. There were perhaps four or five cars dotted about the place, well spread out.
Another car then pulled in, one space over from me and parked. Then, a couple of moment later, a third car shows up, from the next lane over and proceeds to park between us, but facing the opposite way. This means he and I were parked passenger door to passenger door, but the other car was driver's door to driver's door with him.
For some reason, this really pissed me off. We're just a couple of days out from our last lockdown, the government is still encouraging mask wearing and social distancing, the car park was nearly empty, but this ignorant old cunt had to park right on fucking top of us.
What about a little common courtesy and a little common sense? Even without a global pandemic sweeping the planet, there's still no need to bunch up so closely at 0650 hours, on a Sunday morning in the middle of Winter in the middle of a practically empty parking lot.

Dude, I think you just summarized my laughing this entire time.
It's not that I was against taking precautions for the first few weeks......or isolating the elderly and vulnerable.....or even vaccines.
But I watch PEOPLE. I see what they do day after day, year after year. You can not outsmart stupid. They clump together in traffic and everywhere else.
I remember my workplace installed steps within the first few days of the lockdown..........and then I watched customers behave like the completely irresponsible and obnoxious talking primates that they are.......doing whatever they could to circumvent the steps already taken.
The FIRST Day they shut down the local schools to keep children from being grouped together in large crowds?.........then many of their parents loaded them all up and headed over to Walmart to load up on toilet paper and supplies. And they ALL went into the packed store together!?
THAT's why my opinion has always been it'd be better to just chicken pox party this thing and get us thru it as quick as possible. But we've all seen how the 'experts' have cocked it all up repeatedly.....and now they wanna just keep repeating the same steps.

Delta might be as infectious as Chicken Pox, but it's a lot more damaging, even to younger people in their teens, twenties, thirties and forties. Even if it doesn't kill you, it can still have a lasting effect on you that can shorten your natural lifespan and leave you less capable of dealing with other diseases, illnesses and medical conditions. So I wouldn't be in a hurry to spread it around as quick as possible, no matter how much other people might deserve to die for being so fucking irritating and stupid.

My understanding thus far is that Delta seems to be even more contagious..........but not nearly as deadly. And I still haven't seen any evidence that children should be all that worried at all. So if the teachers got first dibs on vaccinations, then they should get their asses back in schools.......or be fired like the Air Traffic Controllers were back in the time of Reagan.
OK. Challenge accepted. And if people don't wanna take that risk, then the same approach should be applied, let others live their lives as they see fit.
How else do you figure you can get back to life? People can cry about all of the elderly and vulnerable deaths thus far.........but they're ignoring all of the deaths that came about from isolation, depression and drug overdoses, too.
This planet is trying to kill us all at all times. That's just life.

Currently, there's a massive Delta Variant outbreak taking place in Sydney and the state of NSW... as well as elsewhere. A large portion of those who have been hospitalized are in their teens, twenties, thirties and forties... as well as the usual number of older people. Of course... just as we try to kill the microbes and parasites that attempt to live off us.
