I said, "do what they can." How do you equate that to, "no matter the $Costs?" No one has a bottomless supply of money, men or materials. You say, "All things in moderation, my friend", so how about you trying that when you leap to conclusions?
Simply because that's how it always starts here, Mac. There's no limit to what they'll find to spend other peoples' money on. That's the fundamental question that never gets asked anymore.....How much is too much?
That's not how our Govt Establishment approaches spending, though.
The conclusion I'm coming to is most people are much more accepting of the Govt spending other peoples' money than I will ever be. Am I incorrect in that reading? Maybe it's a bit different in your country and people are much more aware of what their govt gets up to.....and that there should be a limit on their activities?
But that does not seem to be the case here, I'm afraid. We've literally got multi-millionaires in office, with lifetime perks, insisting that there's a major problem here with wealth gaps and equity.
It all depends upon what the money is spent on... and who is held responsible for any misspending or waste. Anyone in public office should be held accountable at all times for any government resources at their disposal.

You really gotta check my math here......... is Aussieland's yearly budget around $18 Billion? And you've had 13 years of overspending? Deficit heading towards $1 Trillion?
I tried Googling the info, but it's disorienting and a lot of pdf files.
Comparing $Money and population........ it appears the US is spending much more per person. Now we can argue all over the place about where that money gets spent

As I said, it depends upon what the money is spent on... And all bets are off since COVID reared its ugly head. However, for the record, Australia's deficit this financial year is expected to be $161 billion, falling to $106 billion in the next financial year. Meanwhile, the federal budget for this fiscal year was set at $4.79 trillion. What's America's current deficit? And how many years of overspending have you had?

The US is much worse than you......... And we're sailing past $22 Trillion in Debt

I expect it was in response to "current circumstances". It no point reigning in spending if the nation and its people are in crisis and suffering.

I guess that's why we'll always be in a state of crisis and suffering

They'll always be something coming down the road... All we can do is deal with it the best we can.
