Think of both locations/properties like houses..........which one seems like a bigger mess to clean up?
But Greenland wasn't on the market. And we've been involved with Puerto Rico for some decades so we could have done something, surely.
I thought it was funny and an interesting conversation. I hadn't heard the TRADE for PR before. I thought he floated the idea of just buying Greenland? And why is that a crazy idea?
I've also suggested removing everyone from the island of Puerto Rico, selling it off to a private investor and then giving the money to all the former residents to restart their lives on the mainland. That was mocked and called racist, too for some reason. I'm just offering up an idea to avoid future hurricane catastrophes. There WILL BE future hurricanes.

1. Do you think I'm an Obamaniac?
2. The fact that you think 3rd world countries have no educated people is exactly why I think you and Trump are racists
3. Did you or your wife see an extra $115 in your paychecks every week? It was $600.
Countries that responded to the Covid threat early and with near complete compliance fared much better economically... as did several US states.
4. "The American Dream is dead. Stay in your own nightmare." Is that the new message? It sounds an awful lot like, "We got ours and we're not sharing."
1. No, I know you at least well enough to know that you can't stand most of the Dems.....almost as much as you despise the GOP. With me it's about the same just in reverse.
2. Of course they have educated people.......but by percentages? Even some of the worst places in the US manage to do better in that regard to keeping kids in schools. In fact, it's illegal for kids here to work until a certain age or with a permit, so that alone keeps them in school.
3. No, as a matter of fact, my wife took about a $5,000 hit when Gov Walker was elected because of the 'Right to Work' thing......but she still felt it was good pay and benefits. Since then she's become more aware of her own political beliefs and shocked me by being more hardcore than I.
We wouldn't have had to recover economically nearly to the same degree if we'd simply honored the request to close down for 14-21 days........to keep the hospitals supposedly from getting wrecked......and then allowed everyone that wanted to go about their business get back to it. Curve flattening is a funny argument all by itself.
4. The American dream is still attainable......but it's getting much more difficult as the Govt grows ever larger. Sharing? Is that how you sleep at night? By calling it sharing? That's like calling rape "Undocumented Speed Dating"
1. Yup. I hate them both
2. Just because we do slightly better at something than some other country is no reason to shut the entire country out. That is elitism.
3. So you jumped to talking about something completely different because you realized you were wrong about the original topic. Got it.
You probably wouldn't have had to lock down at all if you had started masking and distancing in January.
4. It's getting more difficult because we aren't run by a government but by the corporations.
Also, nice way to misrepresent what you know I meant.

Government isn't a business!
As for "cleaning up the mess": Puerto Rico is an AMERICAN territory. The people that live there are AMERICAN citizens. Why do we treat it like cheap storage shed?
Is it because they're brown, maybe?

Govt should be run more like a business.
No, Barack...... I mean, Rissa
It's because it's a tiny impoverished and poorly run island territory that has been hit time and again.....so it seems to me it'd be a better idea to give those people a safer and more secure life on the homeland. That's how much I care for my fellow Americans.
Has Greenland suffered many catastrophic events in the last 100 years or so?

So Greenland could sell itself? Cool. Just gotta locate the owner.
So it isn't about racial make-up at all? Does it matter? It didn't stop the US from buying Alaska from Russia.

1. No. It shouldn't.
2. PR has been poorly run... by us. And are you suggesting that we bring in over 3 million refugees and just give them jobs and/or welfare? That's a switch! And then what becomes of the island? Do we blow it up so that the Russians and Chinese don't colonize it? We know how much the Chinese love unattended islands. Don't tell me, "Let the Chinese worry about hurricanes," because China gets hit with typhoons all the time and they take care of their damaged cities and islands afterwards. Speaking of taking care of islands, I'll bet we send more aid to other countries than we do to Puerto Rico and they are AMERICANS!
Are we going to offer the same deal to the American Virgin Islands?
And what about Florida and the other states that get hit all the time? I assume you're talking about hurricanes? Why do we pump them full of aid but not PR?
3. One: It's not our country. It's part of Denmark
Two: It's not for sale
Three: Considering how poorly we treat the Alaskan Inuit peoples, I'm not sure 50,000 Greenlandic Inuit people want to join us.
Four: With all of the ice melting, Greenland might need more economic assistance in the future than PR ever did.
Five: This bears repeating: IT'S NOT FOR SALE!
I'm going to take a guess and say, that while reading this response, you opened a Wikipedia tab to verify that the population of Greenland isn't as white as you or Tweetoh the Cheetoh thought.
One last thing (because you like "business") the GDP of Greenland is $1.8 billion and the GDP of PR is over $112 billion.
Eigðu góðan dag!
That's, "Have a nice day" in Greenlandic... which would have to be recognized as an official language in the US if they ever became part of the US.

I'm all for letting our fellow Americans leave that island and avoid future problems. I told you......sell it to private interests and make it like a touristy/holiday destination. Stop including irrelevant points Foreign Aid? Wanna start another threat on that? I'm sure you'll somehow find it in your heart to continue to borrow money to send aid elsewhere.
3. Nobody sells property anymore? Nobody listens to offers anymore? Has CNN done a poll? Climate Change, OH NO! Better send more foreign aid.
Why would I bother, Gweilo? I don't care what color of skin the people have.
What difference would that make to me? English should have been made the official and ONLY govt language of the US decades ago. But let's waste more money on that crap, too. It's much more important than food or healthcare.

1. No it shouldn't. That's called, "communism"
2. You want to sell off a 3,500 square mile island off to corporations so that they can create their very own tax haven? What a fucking idiot.
BTW, I'm only for sending disaster relief to countries that really need the help. I'm not for sending any other sort of aid - including military. We need to take care of our own and that means Puerto Rico. Maybe if we invested as much in them as we do in Florida every tropical storm season they'd be able to get back on their feet as quickly as Florida does.
3. I don't think we've never sent foreign aid to Greenland or Denmark post WWII
"Gweilo" is Cantonese, not Mandarin. Educate yourself.
The food that is priced too high and the health care you don't want to cover?

1. I call it living on a fixed Budget and behaving responsibly
2. Yes. Multiple hotels and resorts, golf courses, etc .........maybe a huge landing spot for cruise ships, too. That way whenever the weather is getting dangerous, nobody should feel the need to stay. Or at the very least, it'd be in newer and more industrial type of structures.......with their own insurance policies, as well.
That's an excellent by the way point. I've said similar things about places that are repeatedly hit.
3. It's sorta tough to believe we haven't sent money to everyone on the planet at this point.......in one way or another.
It's all the same to us racists.
How pricey should water and plain bread, really? Figure out a way for healthcare to be sustainable and reasonably priced, and I might consider it.

So what you want to do with Texas, Florida & all the states that regularly get hit with hurricanes? Isnt part of the problem in Texas that people have built in areas known to get hit by hurricanes? What about all those places Uncle Sam has paid out multiple times to rebuild?

The right price? Everyone has one.
I think perpetually underperforming states should be told to go pound sand. Read the signs in the parks about Do NOT Feed the Animals......it makes them dependent.
And what happens to most businesses that do that too much? They go out of business. That's what should happen to them.

I've seen places like Texas and Florida come up with new building codes....... like cinder block walls and closing metal shutters.......... just like buildings in your state require more sturdy earthquake protections.
I don't have a problem with a little help/assistance. But repeatedly? time and again? Sorry. That just seems foolish. About the worst we have here is flooding........and most of the time you're not allowed back into that home without elevating it to the 100 year flood plain. Cuz they don't wanna deal with you again.

So if Russia offered $10 billion to buy America, we would vote to do it? CEOs have been paid millions for ages. I have argued the guy running Coke & McDonald's have little to do with their success & the companies could save those millions.

That's sort of a lowball offer, doncha think?
And why not? Our politicians have been selling out the country for years.
You're correct. But what does that have to do with anything? Do you see any of their competition overtaking them with lower priced CEOs? About all that would happen differently is the stockholders would receive larger dividends on their shares.
