I think he has been trying to kill it for some time. This is a last ditch effort. There are some on monkeys board as well. I knew that, but I have never been on monkey's board, so I am a bit hesitant. I think it was Rissa that called it a right-wing cesspool. Maybe I will check it out, but so far, this board has been welcoming and seemingly insanity-free.
Sorta like Twitter?
Can we really believe the accusations if those making them are happily wading in a left-wing cesspool?
It reminds me of how many college campuses became so intolerant of anything that didn't lean hard left

Keep telling you, we did it. In the 80s schools went zero tolerance in the name of appearing unbiased so we taught them all to be Intolerant. It's like those that say stealing a pen is just as bad as stealing a diamond ring.

I think we agree...........it started about the same time........and in most of the schools

Children learn what they live. We told them a drawing of a gun was as bad as a gun. We bubble-wrapped their world so they want the world purified like their schools were. You're all for banning books that say things you don't like.

I wouldn't destroy or burn a single book. Just as I wouldn't shut down anyone's free speech.
I would insist that some books are not appropriate for school libraries, though. Wanna guess how outlandish I could get with books to liven up classroom discussions?

Really? Risky Business was a way better teen flick. Three o'clock High? Didn't make its budget. Kid smoking in school? Really? Think any teacher would allow that? KISSING THE TEACHER? Sure. In front of the rest of the students. That "kid" was pathetically old. He's a year younger than me so he was around 25 when he filmed that. Tom Cruise is a year younger than him so he was around 20 when he filmed Risky Business. The guy who wrote that is the son of a pretty famous author. Don't think that didn't open some doors? Daddy wrote Meanwhile, Junior

Daddy wrote Meanwhile, Junior Yes, it was a way better teen flick..........does that change the cult classic status of TOH, though? It's still fondly remembered by many. It did better in the rental/Dvd realm than the theater.......like a lot of cult classics have done.
We used to have a pit right outside the school doors where several of the kids smoked. The point of that scene was he was trying to provoke a Detention. Yeah, whoever heard of teachers and students KISSING, right?
Pathetically olde? He may have been in reality, but his looks still sorta passed for a teen. I've seen far worse examples over the years. Even Buddy reminded me of several kids that went to my high school.
Risky business had smoking, drugs, gambling AND prostitution. It was a lesson in business management, though.....wasn't it? And using sex and influence to get ahead.
Daddy clearly had the more impressive career.........but Jr's wasn't so bad, was it? It's not like he lived off of Dad's residuals

Teachers having affairs with students usually do it out of sight. Privately. They were obviously playing up the sex starved school marm desperate for a man to fulfill her. Yeah, no, he looked older than high school to my eyes. Smoking in the classroom? You were using the clip to promote the idea he was using a porn story as a book report, something most teachers aren't allowing any more than allowing a book report based on a graphic novel. Hollywood is rife with Insider business. Joss Whedon got his place in making shows because daddy was a scriptwriter So Matheson's kid built his career on the fact Junior had the same name as a famous sci-fi writer.

And people USED to do drugs out of sight........privately. But now? We're so progressive and advanced, it's become commonplace......even in places where it's not yet legal.
I thought they were playing up the 'Guy with the right attitude and swagger' angle oh, AND the importance of book reports.
I'll disagree with you. He pulled it off better than several other movies have, imo.
Everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school.
They're promoting the use of gay and transgender books in grades lower than high school. Which sounds more age appropriate to you?
Nepotism, so very important in Hollywood and DC Generational Wealth building?

This film was released in 1987. You think kids were openly smoking in the classroom? The movie is fantasy. Apparently so bad Spielberg had his name removed from the finished product. My 2 moms? My kid heard it in preschool. That upset you?

I think it was a funny movie, that's it. Of course it's fantasy.........but it's got some things based in reality. Spielberg has had bigger wastes of money.
You feel a pre-schooler NEEDS to hear about gays and lesbians that soon? The concepts are gonna sink in?
It doesn't upset me. I think 2 caring parents is almost always better than 1. But what's being pushed and taught in schools.........as opposed to useful basics?

Kids can be fairly rigid. They have a mom & a dad. Friend has 2 of 1 which confuses their outlook unless explained. No talk of sex. Just the home setting of the family. Why is that so upsetting to you.

Kids are doing what comes naturally.......using their brains to categorize things. Taking note of differences.
I'm fine with any good home setting. Mine wasn't and it was a 'normal' heterosexual arrangement.
I'm not upset. Just slightly shocked you can dismiss so many problematic things bound to lead to more troubles.

Lindbergh was ruined and Ford was well known for his beliefs. He put out a paper, right?
But too many forget Roosevelt had no problem locking up those American Japanese at the drop of a hat.
I just think it's only fair to point out the Commies whenever they bring up Nazis

Not exactly. So like Muslims after 9/11, the general American population became suspicious of Japanese Americans.
