Or maybe someone's dairy barn. I rescued a pregnant cat once, and one of her kittens got adopted by a guy who was going to keep her as a mouser for his barn. Fresh milk every day!

Yeah, dairy barn cats have it made! Two years ago, I had a feral mom cat with 7 kittens, and she was too young to have a big brood like that, so she and the babies came to my house, and I helped her, supplementing her and the babies. She was such a good mama! Her kittens all got adopted, but she didn't bond with any adopters, so she came home to live with me. She is a MAJOR mouser, and I know she taught the kittens to hunt, too. I have another cat, Molly, that was a single bottle baby that I kept, and my mama kitty has been trying to teach her how to hunt, lol! Molly is catching on, and she likes hunting June bugs, too! It's all so very exciting! My little ones are so fun to watch, as they tumble over onto their backs and swat at the air after their tummies are full! And 'wrestle' with each other! How goes your quest for a dog?

I rehomed her with my ex, and she's his shadow. She's so tiny! I guess it's because of her cerebral hypoplasia? But she's a little bitty thing. She sleeps on his shoulder every night and just purrs away. He going to take one of my daughter's kittens once they're born and ready to go, so she has a playmate/someone to get the zoomies with, lol.

That happens at my house, too. I'm glad your kitten is so happy with your ex. And I bet she will be puzzled with the new member when it arrives. My Siamese cat, years ago, had to put up with a Golden Retriever puppy in full puppy mode! They were about the same size until the dog started to grow, and there were no more wrestle-manias after that. It was a hoot to watch them at first, and then the cat decided he belonged up where the puppy couldn't go. I have a photo of the cat giving the puppy a hind leg to the crotch; it was so funny! No one ever got hurt, and we all lived happily ever after. Until I got sick... But puppies and kitties are the best medicine. That cat was my constant companion during chemo, and that puppy was my husband's best girl when he was sick. By their very nature, they are therapy animals!

And it's a cool old black and white film from the year of my mother's birth. What year was your mother born? Is the movie available on YouTube? Yeah, there is an actual term for the role I play, though it isn't commonly used: kitten queen. Usually, I am just a foster mama, or a baby kitten foster. Fostering adults isn't as labor intensive, but requires more room, and there are plenty of people that can do that. But the babies require patience and discipline; at first, bottles are fed every 2-3 hours around the clock. That first week to ten days is mind-numbing. Then the round the clock part ends, but the bottles are fed 5 times a day every 4 hours. And if a feeding is missed, that's a major deal, they can dehydrate fast. Often, I will still do a wee hour feeding until I am sure they can make it through the night; they are eating more at that point. When I can finally add Gerber's Chicken Baby Food to the formula at about 3-4 weeks, I can drop down to 4 feedings a day, then as I introduce canned food, then crunchies, things become less dicey. But each litter stays with me until they are 8 weeks old, or a certain weight. Because I started bottle feeding the goat on February 21, I have been bottle feeding for nearly three months. The goat still gets 2 bottles a day, then real hay and grain, and my tiny ones are just now dropping to 4 feedings a day, and the new kids are on canned food with some formula as 'gravy'. It is still a lot of work, and I'm not a young spring chicken anymore, I'm an old gray mare, lol! I wear one small reminder of what I do; a tiny gold starfish earring. I'm assuming you are familiar with the starfish story, if not, just Google starfish story, and there are multiple variations. But the question is always "How can you make a difference to so many?" and the reply is "I made a difference to that one."

I believe this version has been colourized, although personally, I prefer films of this vintage to be in black and white... it gives them much better atmosphere. Next to the effort you've been putting in, raising a Human seems almost simple.

Next to the effort you've been putting in, raising a Human seems almost simple. Well, that was a blast from the past! Films were so different back then; the staging, the framing of shots, the body language of the actors, the look of the actors in clothing from that period and hairstyles.... They don't make them like that anymore! I connected to "she" at the end, as she was aging... she looked pretty much like I feel about now, worn out! She was glamourous as a young woman, but her performance was not as emotionally genuine as Tanya's. I read on the old IMDb that this was her only film, she was more of a stage actress, and then went into politics! Her demise at the end allowed Leo and Tanya to pursue their own flame of life - she made a difference to them - but, wow, she didn't reign by fear but by TERROR! This movie must have been quite the talk of the town when it came out, a fantastical 'other' culture, the ritualistic dancing and human sacrifice - had it been rated back then, would it have been an 'R'? I still don't have sound on my computer yet, so I used closed captions. It was fairly jumbled, but not unlike people posting on the forum, so I could pretty much extrapolate what was going on. Interesting that even back then, humans were questioning the meaning of life in film. And they did toss in that little bit about Jesus and Jerusalem and him sacrificing himself for others... Interesting film, it reminded me of another oldie but goodie, "The Time Machine" with the future of the Morlocks eating the Eloi, and the scientist coming back in time to take back three books with him. And what were those three books, his friends wondered? There was some interesting stuff about "She" on old IMDb. It took a bit of time to search it out, here is the link if you haven't been there already: www.imdb.com/title/tt0026983/?ref_=fn_al_tt_21I miss the old IMDb, where people actually discussed movies. It is a shame that trolls caused it to shut down. There are still, at least, reviews from members, and one can read through those, but it just isn't the same. I've noticed, on v1, that the classical film board does some of that discussion, but not like on the original IMDb. That would interest me, but it doesn't seem to be a priority for anyone else. Interesting that your mother grew up next to the Nazis. I have a friend, a bit younger than your mother, who grew up in the Netherlands during the war itself. And she did not like to talk about it. Her parents brought the whole family to the USA, and they never lost that Dutch accent; it was such fun to listen to them talk! Thanks for linking to that movie for me, that was fun!

My daughter now has 9 that need homes. She's in my weight class, now! If they get diarrhea, get them to the vet PDQ, if it is coccidia or giardia, it's serious. Mine are dealing with it now, so they are on meds. Many little ones that are without their mamas develop it because they don't have any more of mama's antibodies. I'll try to find a good kitten rescue website that has info on how to get them to 8 weeks old and post a link. www.catster.com/kittens/guide-to-bottle-feeding-kittens^ This also covers the pee and poo issues, though not in depth. More tips, just from me: At week 3 or 4, I start mixing Gerber's Chicken Baby Food in their formula, 1 part baby food, 1 part water. Add gradually over several feedings and days. Then, when it's time to start weaning, they will happily lap up GCBF from a dish, or schmear it on their little faces. Then use it as gravy for canned kitten food. When you get to the dry food stage, I highly recommend Royal Canin Baby Cat and Mama dry food in a bag. Small enough crunchies for tiny kittens and very nutritious, and they like the taste better than Science Diet. That can be found at Petco's or PetSmart's. If your daughter continues to take in the little ones, the best nipple to use on the bottle is the Miracle Nipple. miraclenipple.com/Not in stores, order online only, so do it in advance.

Maybe she should bottle feed him as well. I'll give her your tips. Can I order that stuff from Amazon? I might just send some to her and save her some time, since there's a lot of craziness with her moving and the kids in general. I know my grands would love to help bottle feed a baby kitty though.

I think EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD is available on amazon, except for the miracle nipple, use their site, they are fast and you know you are getting the original. KMR is good milk replacer in powdered form, that can be bought pre-mixed in soda-sized cans at the vet's; expensive, but for a small amount, much easier. Do not use cow's milk!!!!!! Kitten Milk Replacer only, or goat's milk replacer in a pinch. I'm glad hers have mamas, they are less likely to get sick and Mama does all the dirty work of cleaning them up. Supplement Mama with high quality canned food, even if just a jar of Chicken Baby food every few days; everything helps the mama and the babies with richer milk from mama. Royal Canin also makes a canned food for mamas and babies. They may also have a milk replacer... Tell you daughter to hang in there, she is doing a great thing! PS, the runt does need something extra if it is having trouble getting a nipple or sucking hard enough. In a pinch, she can use a dropper to feed just him with milk replacer. I use glass droppers with finer tips that I get at the grocery store pharmacy, the kind I get have a bend for doing ears on people, presumably. She can give him plain warm water to keep him hydrated enough to keep nursing. Geez, who am I talking to? You're a nurse, you understand this stuff! PS, again, I found this kitten rescue in Pittsburgh, PA, that's where you are now? Anyway, it is a good site and reputable all-volunteer rescue, and may have things on their website that can help your daughter. Just another bit of information to add to the cause! And, you check out the Cat Lounge, if you need a kitten or cat fix, you can just go hang out with kitties and have snacks and coffee! And have contact with folks that help with your daughter's efforts. kittyqueencatrescue.com/Available at Wal-Mart.
