MDI's AirCar hits the streets, no one is safe. Especially not the air. Or the cars.
P. Miller@futurepaul August 23, 2008 10:02 AM
We've been tracking the AirCar for near centuries in Engadget Time, but MDI's little car that could-maybe-possibly seems to have finally taken to the streets. The car has been seen sporting French plates, meaning it's actually been approved for use there -- unsurprising, considering the car's 2009 planned launch in France, but exciting nonetheless. The car boasts a 50 mile range running off of compressed air, and can stretch that further by heating up the air with another power source. It might not solve world hunger, but we're just happy to see compressed air playing a featured role outside of cleaning our keyboard and propelling Airsoft pellets at our cat.*
*We're kidding. Cats are awesome.

Wiki:
MDI had also reached an agreement with Tata Motors, which were to produce and sell OneCAT cars in India. Tata Motors announced in May 2012 they had assessed the design passing phase 1, the "proof of the technical concept" towards full production for the Indian market. Tata has moved onto phase 2, "completing detailed development of the compressed air engine into specific vehicle and stationary applications"
In February 2017 Dr. Tim Leverton, president and head at Advanced and Product Engineering at Tata revealed that it had completed the first phase of its project and the second stage was started a few years earlier. Tata was at a point of "starting industrialisation" with the first vehicles to be available by 2020.[12] Other reports indicate Tata is also looking at reviving plans for a compressed air version of the Tata Nano,[13] which had previously been under consideration as part of their collaboration with MDI.
========================================================
A decade and a half later............after the death of it's founder in 2016..........here we are STILL waiting on any actual production models available for purchase. Even their own website is still under construction?
About as ridiculous and laughable as Myers Motors and their Corbin Sparrows that have been in the planning for even longer.

I'd tell the frogs to take the bus but that would crash the beautifully thought out economy.

Like your unrealistic expectations for fuel replacement.......... the notion of using a flying car seems so far off right now.
They can't even get a self-driving auto into production and have burned thru $Billions just trying to get one to work without error. And there's PLENTY of $motivation to get it done, what with just replacing all truck drivers alone.

There have been many, many instances of 'unintended acceleration' accidents over the years.........and it's almost always the fault of the driver's error
They almost ruined Audi in America over it........while the Ford Taurus got a pass and cover up

But Tesla suffers from the same thing Meta does. A billionaire who has science fiction dreams of self driving cars or virtual reality meeting space.

That looks an awful lot like the Myers/Corbin or Elios that have been promising to come to production for years

YOU have science fiction dreams of energy coming from thin air rather than fossil fuels.........what's so crazy about expecting the tech to finally offer auto-pilot vehicles? They've been mapping the planet for years now and using radar in cars/trucks.......so what's the hold up?
It's gonna put a shyteload of truckers out of business, I can tell you that
Hopefully someone will offer a small gas engine model of that SOLO, too

Toyota premiered it's 2023 Prius Prime yesterday.......it's pretty sharp looking.
News Cars & Auto Toyota, Slow to Embrace Full EVs, Reveals 2023 Prius Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid'In a diversified world, we need a variety of options,' Toyota says of its approach to next-gen cars. By Emily Dreibelbis November 16, 2022 For decades, Toyota's Prius set the stage for the electric vehicle revolution we're seeing today. Yet Toyota has been slow(Opens in a new window) to join its rivals on that path, even as legacy automakers pledge to fully electrify their lineups in the next decade and brands like Tesla are already fully electric. Toyota's reveal of the 2023 Prius hybrid and Prius Prime plug-in hybrid (PHEV) confirms that it plans to deepen its hybrid roots while competing with more horsepower and a modernized design. The new hybrid hits dealers in winter 2023, followed by the plug-in hybrid in spring 2023. "In a diversified world, we need a variety of options," Simon Humphries, Toyota’s design chief, said(Opens in a new window) during a launch event in Tokyo. "We're still faced with people asking, 'How long are you going to keep making hybrids for?' [But] the Prius is a model that must be kept. In order to achieve carbon neutrality, everyone in the world must participate. We need ecological solutions within reach of the many." Compared to the regular Prius hybrid, the Prius Prime is more similar to a fully electric car. Like other PHEVs, it has a larger, more powerful battery that charges up via a port on the side of the car (hybrids recharge on their own).

I think the issue with electric is distance. How far can you get on that charge?

the distance to begin with, yes..........but even more concerning is how long to refill
That's why I liked my hybrid.
Takes 2 minutes to refill the gas tank........but the electric motor can keep MPGs higher

I don't wanna hear about the profits in terms of dollars
Compare the sheer amount of barrels sold...........and don't compare it to last year when people were just coming out of the covid lock downs. Go back to peak times.

So they made 84% more than the same quarter in 2021. Their revenue is up 49% year to year. They are gouging us, dude.

But the Govt isn't? You can't see that? Those regulations have nothing to do with the fossil fuel industry?
