Most of us would probably define expert as the dictionary does:
But not Abbey... unless the "expert" agrees with Abbey's opinion, but even then Abbey is likely to say that if all those years in school, the multiple degrees, post-doctoral fellowships, and decades of research lead that person to the same conclusion as a 50-something, unskilled, community college dropout that they aren't worthy of the title.
This is just one of the simple fallacies that drives the simple-minded to thinking that their opinions have as much merit as anyone else.
To them I offer Asimov's words of wisdom:
“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

It's the highly educated experts pushing those diversity actions you've mentioned in another thread. They're in charge of most college campuses, as well.
It's the highly educated experts that pushed for economic policies in the US that have failed again and again.
It's the highly educated experts in charge of the NIH and CDC. Impressive how wrong so many experts can be yet never suffer for it themselves.

1. Do you think that experts can't be wrong, or just that if someone is ever wrong that they lose claim to the appellation, "expert"?
2. Like supply-side (trickle down) economics?
3. See #1
Also remember this: Just because some guy reached his foot out from the sideline and trips the guy running for a touchdown doesn't mean the play being run was wrong or stupid.

1. I think life in general should be more like a buffet. Pick what works for you. But using experts & Govt to mandate things is inherently evil and wrong.
2. Anyone expecting things to 'trickle down' to them is a fool. You yourself just highlighted the importance of putting in effort and actually SHOWING UP.
So it's always someone else's fault? That's the convenience of our so called 2 Party system, I guess. merh is still blaming Reagan for California's woes. And I'm blaming FDR for getting the Commie ball rolling here in the US.

And we're back to pointing out that if your decision affects ONLY you, then we're all on board, but if your decision might kill or injure others then it's OK to curb your decision-making process.
2. Yup. And the GOP has been pushing supply-side economics for decades. You yourself push it with every Friedman video.
3. Since I am not a legislator and very few of the candidates I have ever voted for have ever been in office... yeah. It's not my fault. Also, Merh has plenty of proof to toss around regarding Governor Reagan fucking things up in Cali.
And I'm quite fond of using the phrase, "The Socialist, FDR" thank you very much.
Once again, you're trying to make connections that just aren't there because you are locked into fallacious logic such as "If not A then B" when it comes to every issue.
There are nuances.
There are 3rd ways.

1. Yet if I were to point out all the welfare handouts affects others and their pocketbooks, it's not just about only ME, is it? But you're perfectly fine backing Govt force in that case.
2. Capitalism and free market. I'm fine with. More and more Govt regulations and higher taxes, I'm not.
3. The man has been dead for how long? They've been running things for how long in many of the largest metropolitan areas?
I realize there are often 3rd ways or 4th or 5th, etc etc etc
But there's also an issue these days with things not being simply black & white. You point it out regarding word definitions. We could add in genders and other nonsense.

1. Ooooh! "Force." Stay on topic, moron.
2. Then tell those corporate collectivists to get out of the lobby and stop influencing government.
3. Yet if I were to ask you what "fallout" we've been living with in the nearly 8 decades since FDR's death, I bet you'd have a list....
4. I don't think you do.
5. Stay on topic, Horace.

The Dunning-Kruger Effect also appears to have had some influence on the matter.
