The lack of capital prevents many from starting their own business. Also temperament, management skills are necessary to be a boss. Some people like to be on wages.
While I would certainly criticize the banking industry and some of it's practices.......that lack of capital doesn't prevent the typical American from buying all sorts of other things.
They also go into debt on so many products and activities that are not even necessary.
Ahhhh, so we can agree.........it usually takes some kind of personality type or drive that makes a person a boss/entrepreneur? And that group of people is a smaller percentage of most groups of people.
Exactly, most people like to avoid the risks and settle for the security of just plain working for others. It's a good thing or a bad thing, it's just a reality. But it gets avoided in these insipid conversations over wealth gaps and worker value.
The truth is very clear..........the tiny minority of people that become owners and bosses ARE more rare, thus more important than the typical and replaceable worker. Just like occurs elsewhere in nature.
I might make a wild guess that, because of the education system that encourages individuality and extroverts, and the culture that values capitalist enterprises, America has a higher percentage of bosses and wannabe bosses than most other countries.

you believe THAT is what public schools teach? We really see things differently.
This culture values enterprise? HA! It seems to value drug use and American Idol more than actual enterprise, imo
I could see there's more OPPORTUNITY for people to become bosses themselves.........and that's awesome. But we also see the failure rate of most starter/small businesses. That could be a whole nother conversation all by itself.

Right at the top of the page: NOTE: All 2020 and later data are UN projections and DO NOT include any impacts of the COVID-19 virus.
So exclude 2020-2022.........what was the overall trend telling you before covid even arrived?
The US is getting more obese and out of shape/unhealthy.
So a tougher bug's arrival, like Covid-19, was sure to hit us harder than younger and healthier populations.
I've never denied covid or packed a wallop.........but we've been seeing a downward trend in the Life Expectancy in the US. Like you've pointed out once or twice when it comes to morbidly obese celebs trying to pass themselves off as 'body positive' and whatever else message they're sending out these days........your eyes aren't lying to you. It ain't just the schooling and the crime that we're going backwards on.
I can also see that the shift happened in the wake of the 2007-8 financial crisis. A previous shift happened after we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq. I can't really say more without looking at other corresponding data... and neither can you.

Nope, there's almost always several factors at play........you, I and the media play this game of deciding for ourselves which ones were the truly important reasons. But we're all just guessing or giving an opinion, too.
fumbled wording......... I have never denied that covid was real or that it was one heck of an illness to catch for some. (Myself included) That's why I don't appreciate being lumped in with the crazy extreme that says it flat out doesn't exist.........or that the Earth is flat

Then stop talking as if your one string of numbers settles the debate 2. I wasn't laughing at your wording. I knew what you meant.
That's what I was laughing at.

1. Dude, in over 20 years.........has any of these debates EVER been settled?
2. Ah..........carry on then

1. Yes. Most have been settled... for the people who are right.
2. That's OK. You lied. I laughed. We're all good now.

Certain people claim to never be wrong.......just constantly improving their theories. Amazing how often they're funded by Govt
