KGUN 9 On Your Side A study of 5,000 kids found those who played more than the average hour of video games each day wound up with higher intelligence scores than the ones who spent less time playing games.
==========================================================================
Wouldn't one suspect that the kids attracted to such activities were already a bit nerdier and smarter than average?

Wouldn't one suspect that the kids attracted to such activities were already a bit nerdier and smarter than average? Despite the stereotypes... no. In fact, I tend to picture gamers as slackers* who should spend more time reading books.
*I'd apologize to ant-mac but I know he wears the label proudly

I do think, like most things..........that there are various shades of truth in these things. My cousin, like you, is a big reader of books and very into computers, science, tech, etc etc...........but also spends gobs of amount of time gaming.
His kind are not to be confused with the actual practically brain dead that just veg out and happen to play video games, too
I liken it to those previous studies that associated classical music or the playing of an instrument with being smarter......duh, the kids with those kinds of interests and tendencies were smarter all along. The trombone or violin didn't make them smarter.

Cheers, now let's drink our... ginger beer. For me, when I'm not video gaming or surfing the net, I love reading films, TV, music and so on. While I'm not really into computers, I do like several different aspects of science, history and bits and pieces of everything. I've recently been watching various YouTube channels following the war, the global economy, cryptocurrency and several other topics besides. At some point or other, I'm interested in most things to some degree. Meanwhile, I often get a kick out of listening to classical music whilst video gaming. Between Beethoven and a bit of the old ultra violence, I feel just like Alex DeLarge.

Videe well, little brother. I get a chuckle out of my wife's distaste for that movie. THAT's how good a job Malcolm did at being detestable.
I had a root beer shake tonite. It was dee-lish.
