"A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader." Samuel Adams

Samuel Adams Good thing Matt never suggested a "general dissolution of principles."

Every new attempt at infringing is chipping away at the principle of the 2nd Amendment. imo

Which of his suggestions do you consider an infringement? Be specific.

Which of his suggestions do you consider an infringement? Be specific. it’s about finding a “middle ground, the place where most of us Americans live anyway, especially on this issue.” It’s something that some leaders of both major political parties seem not to be able to grasp. As a gun owner myself, I found myself nodding in agreement when McConaughey ticked off a series of reforms that he believes most even-keeled gun-owning Americans can get behind: universal background checks, raising the minimum age to 21 for purchasing an AR-15 style weapon, waiting periods and red-flag laws.
===============================================================
We already have background checks.......the Uvalde shooter passed, for one example.
I completely disagree with raising the age to 21........as it's another infringement and goes against the very notion and expectation of ADULT behavior by the age of 18.
The style of weapon doesn't matter one bit to me.......and to anyone it does matter? They're fools buying into this form of gun grabbing hysterics.
Waiting periods have not stopped long term planners or criminals.
Red Flag laws seem very much like a slippery slope and prone to abuse by Govt.

1. But in conjunction with a red flag law, he might not have. Just sayin'....
2. It's just for that one style of weapon. Most states already have different age limits for different licensing.
3. Since no one mentioned any sort of "grab," YOU sound like the one who is getting hysterical.
4. No, but it might slow down the "crime of passion" types. Would it be OK if the waiting period were waived if the potential purchaser could prove exigent need such as a restraining order?
5. Those worry me as well for that very reason, but that just means we need people capable of crafting clear legislation. And that would leave people like MTG fragrantly waving her peach tree dishes at the gazpacho police out of the mix.
I think it was interesting that he also mentioned expanding mental health care, which is something that the folks on the "right" always mention....

1. might? coulda? shoulda? Very convincing argument.
2. I know. And on principle, I disagree with that 18 vs 21 argument. As you kinda posted recently.......either they're adults, or they're not.
3. This is where you come off like a Leftie. You know it's an ever infringing chipping away. They're smart enough to not use the term grab.......but the unwritten policy rears it's head now and then.
4. If I had more faith in all of the various agencies sharing info properly....... I could agree. But I do not. Plus, I really wish most women would just do the smart thing and arm themselves.......just in case. I don't want the imagined security of a TRO/piece of paper to be their only defense.
5. You mean like the 'Big Guy' that thinks a 9mm will blow a lung completely out of your body?
Having dealt with a mental patient for the first 3rd of my life, I see the endless pit of despair and futility that's involved with many of those kinda people. Like the criminals, I don't think there is really any legislation that'd work. Not unless you wanna abandon constitutional rights.

1. When you invent a pan-dimensional travel devise, let me know so that we can eliminate conditional clauses from the language. Until then....
2. And yet no one is seriously arguing that any infringement is happening.
3. I'm speaking directly to the content posted, not your hysterics.
4. I don't think you read what I wrote, but... nothing new.
5. I don't know who "The Big Guy" is. Can they write and pass laws?
6. Yes. The entire population of the planet should base their opinions on you and your experience alone.

Great example of the censored 'news' that you receive.
They can put out Executive Orders, if that helps.

1. I use a VPN. My news isn't censored.
2. I don't think you understand what and EO is or how it functions from a legal standpoint. But, yer boi, Donnie issued a LOT of them:220 in 4 years. Even that scary leftist Obama only issued 276 over 8 years.
As usual, EOs only seem to bother you when it's the other team issuing them....

1. Then explain how you did not know who the 'Big Guy' was?
2. EOs have become just another shortcut around the constitution and the way the Govt is supposed to behave. Let's all applaud when our team does it

1. I don't know who YOU mean by "The Big Guy." I'm not a mind reader.
2. They aren't shortcuts unless the rules set by Congress allow it.
And I don't have a team.

1. You don't need to be a mind reader. This is a politics related forum, right? Red Team vs Blue Team for the most part. Crackhead Hunter and his laptop provided plenty of evidence and referrals to the Big Guy and getting his cut from all those deals he was making overseas. Totally legit
2. You may not have a team.......you even admirably dislike Obama, but that does not mean you don't tend to lean one way the majority of the time. S'okay. I understand as I've never thought of myself as a Republican either.

Well, I simply must be....... stereotypes don't lie. Especially after they've been preached for decades by Marxist leftists.
