to be fucked in the ass by one of his own rockets.
LotR: The Rings of Power, a new series "based" on Tolkien's magnum opus is coming and JRR must be spinning in his grave.
There are black elves (not evil... their skin color), black dwarf princesses (without beards), the guy playing Elrond looks like a 20-year-old girl pretending to be a 10 year old boy, and Galadriel - the most powerful magic user in Middle Earth - is wearing armor and carrying a sword. Oh, and they are adding in a bunch of new characters because Tolkien obviously didn't write enough of his own.
What the actual fuck?
Did I mention that I hear Sauron is going to female?
Amazon dropped an article in Vanity Fair the other day and the trailer just dropped. Amazon even dropped an article bashing "racist, misogynistic" fans within an hour or two of the VF article. They obviously knew that backlash was coming and wanted to make sure they controlled the narrative as quickly as possible.
However, the fans are doing what they can. Just about every comment on the trailer's page on youtube says the same thing: “Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made.” which is a quote from Tolkien himself.
I'm starting to wonder if the movie studios were the driving force behind removing the "dislike" counter....

If I lived in China I would not be surprised nor offended if the vast majority of people I saw in films and on TV were Chinese. I don't even know if they make much effort to be 'inclusive' with their programming?
But lately in the US? You'd seriously think you woke up in Wakanda if you didn't know better.
We invited people over for the Superbowl.......and the Halftime Show? Same

1. Why would a homogenous society feel the need to be "inclusive"?
2. I'm assuming that means that a majority of TV shows have all-black casts?
3. Since you mentioned it, I went to youtube to check out the halftime show. Good stuff.

1. Because the whole entire world has become woke! Doncha know? And while I agree on the difference there, that argument never seems to be accepted when we claim you can't compare the 'melting pot' US to other places that seem to do better.......where people get along much more peacefully.
2. No, not to that point yet.......but the commercials? As I was lambasted for pointing out last year, it went from a somewhat representative percentage of the population. But the last two years? It's gone overboard in a very patronizing way, imo
3. You liked it? Aside from a few commercials, we thought pretty much the entire show, to include the game itself, was kinda lame. My buddy was seated next to me and after expressing relief Tony Romo wasn't annoyingly pre-calling the entire game.......... he subsequently predicted pretty much the entire 4th quarter and outcome.
Since I didn't watch a single game this year I had to ask him HOW did the Bengals even end up in the big game? Mediocrity seemed to be the consensus.

alt-right? Yet we're NOT continually moving to the Left? Didja catch Russell Brand being labeled 'rightwing' recently, as well?
Just caught a new Ali Wong stand up special.......and she had a piece on very successful women and their having trouble finding a man comfortable with a woman making more money/being more successful than them. She compared the predominantly male stand up comedian world hooking up with super models and such, but successful female comedians? 3rd rate magicians are all they attract?
She's very funny most of the time.........but on that one subject, I think she just needs to hang with other crowds than the ones she chooses.
Pretty good video.......but I'm always slightly amazed at the levels of geekdom when it comes to things like LotR. I actually read the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings back in the day and enjoyed them very much....... I just couldn't sludge my way thru The Silmarillion, though. It was like reading a foreign dictionary. But regarding the geeks and their attention to detail in this video criticism, I had forgotten about the whole 'all dwarves are bearded' angle and it's funny because they missed an opportunity to insert some lesbianism into the story there as well.
Listening to this guy geek out reminded me of the few times merh has gone off on one of her rare rants about anime and manga. I don't know what the hell she's talking about......but I admire the obvious time and effort she's put into it.

I didn't watch the game. I'm not a fan of either team and none of the players are particularly exciting to me so....

I don't know what the hell she's talking about......but I admire the obvious time and effort she's put into it. That's kinda the point of all the vitriol for this new show (and quite a few other IPs out there): they aren't staying faithful to the source material and it's pissing off the fans. You know? The people most likely to want to purchase the product?
They've ass-raped Star Trek, Star Wars, the Disney animated movies, Terminator, ... and now they're looking give Middle Earth a bloody anus.
They tried to ass-rape the MCU's Infinty Saga with CAPTAIN MARVEL, but they switched up that plan when they actually started listening to the fans and she didn't get that much screen-time in ENDGAME, but the next phases of the MCU are shaping up to be a disaster and I don't think they're going to be making as much green as before.
Oh. And let's not forget what happened to GoT when they ran out of source material to work with. That show fell apart when left completely in the hands of inept writers.
I'm all for diversity and inclusion as long as it doesn't fuck over the source material. As stated by the youtubers above, there are plenty of places in Middle Earth that haven't been "fleshed out," so why not start there?
Probably because "Middle Earth: The Saga of the Haradrim" wouldn't reach the wider (non-fan) demographic who only know LotR. It's just a cash-grab and as usual it's coming at the expense of the actual fans.

3. As a percentage? Seemed to be not very diverse. Then they went from MM up to a few of the owner's boxes, so that balanced it out?

Seems crazy to bring in new writers when you've already got tons of source material left to work with.
And I feel the same as you about Marvel. No need to change a thing.......and you can always introduce NEW and different mutants and heroes.......so why F over the fans? Just to push a political agenda?

The shift is especially unusual given that China is highly homogenous with some of the world's strictest immigration rules. — Jessie Yeung, CNN, 7 Feb. 2022

Even when I sometimes agree with you........you end up spinning it in the usual direction of racist accusations. Barrack would be proud. He might even claim you coulda been his son.

It's amazing. Just about every pop-culture commentator on youtube is just bashing this yet-to-be-released show. A couple of the diehard Tolkien fandom sites are "waiting to see what the show is really like" but I suspect that they are really looking at ad revenue figures.
