I always assumed the voter books, etc, were the norm across the country.
Doesn't every registrar send out a booklet on the local & the state initiatives & candidates?
No
My wife has tried to Google and find out who some of these people are and where they stand on what issues.........to no avail often enough.
Then there's the hilarity of the 'big name' candidates and their slippery ads about one another.
The books have been around as long as I have voted in California so back to 1980 at least
The Secretary of State sends out a magazine sice book that lists the state initiatives including a fiscal impact followed by a page "Argument in favor of Proposition XX" with a Rebuttal & another page "Argument Against Proposition XX" with a rebuttal. All are signed by by whoever wrote the Argument (politicians, groups, etc)
Like Prop 1
Constitutional Right to Reproductive Freedom.
In favor is Shannon Udovic-Consyant, M.D.
Board Chair California Medical Association
Jodi Hicks, President Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California
Carol Moon Goldberg, President League of Women Voters of California
That it will enshrine a woman's right to choose abortion & contraception in the California Constitution
The Rebuttal is by Allison Martinez, Executive Director California Alliance of Pregnancy Care
Brad Dacus, President Pacific Justice Institute
Dr. Vanessa Wong, Gynocologist.
That this is a waste of money as it is a right already, we don't need it (that's working for women in other states, isn't it?)
Against opinion is by Dr. Anne Marie Adams, Gynecologist
Tak Allen, President International Faith Based Coalition
Assemblyman Jim Patterson (74 yr old Republican)
That we don't need this waste of tax dollars. That it is a political stunt. That it removed a ban on late stage abortion
Rebuttal is by Sandy Reding, R.N. President California Nurses Association
Kelly McCue, M.D. District IX Chair American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
Cary Franklin, J.D. Facility Director UCLA Center of Reproductive Health, Law and Policy
Don't be misled. It doesn't change how or when someone can access an abortion in California.

This is why I do not get how one can not want to vote at home where one can study the guides.
For years I remember my folks marking the books so they knew how they wanted to vote & one has the right to take the book in with one to the booth.
